An eco-friendly twist on tossing live Christmas trees

As the festive season winds down and households bid farewell to their Christmas trees, the Nature Conservancy of Canada (NCC) proposes an environmentally friendly solution for disposing of live trees.

According to Andrew Holland, spokesperson for the NCC, residents opting for natural Christmas trees can contribute to conservation efforts through a simple post-holiday act.

Bison return to old stomping grounds in Batoche

In a stride towards reconciliation, Parks Canada recently returned 25 Plains bison from national to Métis land. 

The large bovines were transported to establish a new herd on Métis Nation-Saskatchewan (MN–S) lands near Batoche National Historic Site on December 7. 

Laura Gardiner is acting wildlife ecologist and species at risk scientist at Grasslands National Park, where the bison were previously living. 

FCAA Saskatchewan warns of potential scams

In two separate provincial releases, the Financial and Consumer Affairs Authority of Saskatchewan (FCAA) recently advised investors to look out for scam sites.

Multiple sites were mentioned by the FCAA as being unregistered to trade or sell securities or derivatives in Saskatchewan: Astronix, My Profit Live and TradeOnyx.

Investors and consumers are advised not to send money to companies that are not registered, as they may not be legitimate businesses.

$6.52 change coming for your average monthly SaskEnergy bill

Monthly natural gas bills will be a fair bit lower for SaskEnergy customers starting next month.

The provincial government approved a commodity rate decrease of 24.5 per cent as well as a delivery service rate increase of 5 per cent the crown corporation applied for back in June.

CEO and President of SaskEnergy explained the readjustment will be effective for October 1st as they'd asked for in the application. 

Province-wide traffic enforcement sees surge in tickets

A significant increase in traffic citations could be felt across the province last month, according to SGI’s Traffic Safety Spotlight. 

This included 1,097 distracted driving tickets, 706 seatbelt tickets, 410 impaired driving offences. 

Tyler McMurchy, spokesperson for the insurance company, said last month was the first time since 2019 that the monthly reported number has exceeded 1,000.
