Solar panel project showcases updates to the community at second open house
Estevan got to see an update on a new development taking place outside of town, as the Iyuhána Solar Project is being developed by Greenwood Sustainable Infrastructure in partnership with SaskPower and Ocean Man First Nation.
The project will be set up southwest of Estevan, providing a projected 100 megawatts, enough to power around 25,000 homes. The open house was the second held by Greenwood as the project has been moving forward.

Spring weather forces time-out on Estevan U15 softball tryouts
Mother Nature has thrown a curveball at Estevan’s U15 provincial softball team, forcing organizers to postpone tryouts originally scheduled for this Sunday.
Head coach Shawn Madsen said the decision was made following a meeting, with rain and potentially snow expected over the weekend.

With broken hearts, the family wishes to announce that Karen Wilhelm, late of Estevan, SK passed away at St. Joseph’s Hospital, Estevan on Thursday, April 3, 2025 at the age of 60 years.
Karen was preceded in death by her father Robert Collier and her parents-in-law Ben and Lil Wilhelm.
Credit union merger proposal approved by boards; member vote to come
The boards of Conexus Credit Union, Cornerstone Credit Union, and Synergy Credit Union have officially approved a proposal to merge, setting the stage for the creation of the largest credit union in Saskatchewan and one of the largest in Canada.
In an interview with Discover Weyburn, Conexus board chair Ken Kosolofski said the recommendation reflects a shared commitment across all three organizations to put members first.
Fill the Truck Food drive returns tomorrow to restock Estevan food bank
With shelves running low and demand remaining high, the Salvation Army Food Bank in Estevan is turning to the community for support as the Fill the Truck Food Drive returns tomorrow.
“This is very important,” said Ronza Reynard, community ministries director with the Salvation Army. “We really do enjoy partnering with other people and groups in our community, and so for somebody to want to partner with us and say, ‘Hey, let us help you get that food bank filled,’ we find that to be awesome.”
Moose Mountain Provincial Park to see backcountry sites, Chalet upgrades
The provincial budget, announced on March 19th, plans for some upgrades and developments at Moose Mountain Provincial Park. The park will soon feature back country camping sites as well as upgrades to the Visitor Centre.
Tanya Lawson, the acting Executive Director for Park Operations with the Ministry of Parks, Culture, and Sport, said the two new backcountry locations are within their existing trail system and will provide an 'off the beaten path' style of camping for those who prefer a more rustic experience.
Federal NDP leader worried for kids after Saskatchewan MLA called him a terrorist
Federal NDP Leader Jagmeet Singh says he's worried about the message being sent to children after a Saskatchewan legislature member and former teacher called him a terrorist.
Speaking to reporters in Richmond, B.C., Singh said he didn't care personally about the comment but questioned why Saskatchewan Party MLA Racquel Hilbert would even say such a thing.
Downtown revitalization project continues in April, aims to be finished by mid-October
The City of Estevan has announced that construction of the Downtown Revitalization Project will restart later in April, in hopes of wrapping up construction by mid-October.

Province introducing legislation for pilot framework on removing derelict buildings
The provincial government and smaller organizations like the Saskatchewan Association for Rural Municipalities have been in discussions around how to best deal with derelict buildings in RMs, and a new piece of legislation may be the key for that.
Earlier this year, the province discussed utilizing volunteer fire departments that could use the derelict buildings for practice, clearing away the land and providing an opportunity to help them trade.
Farmers getting ready to spring into seeding season with ground melting away
With spring rolling into the southeast, farmers are getting ready for the upcoming growing season and all the hardships and rewards that come with it. Seeding season normally happens a bit after snow melts off the ground, with farmers needing a bit of time afterwards so the ground can thaw.
