U18 AA Estevan Apex Bruins close out season with weekend loss in league finals

Another Estevan hockey team has closed up shop for the season, after being part of a great playoff run. The U18 AA Estevan Apex Bruins managed to make it to their league finals, before losing in two games to the Martensville Marauders.

The first game saw them fall 2-1 in overtime back in March, before they lost another game this weekend.

Estevan Doctor Edward Tsoi announces retirement

After nearly four decades of dedicated service, Dr. Edward Tsoi has announced he will be retiring at the end of June. 

In a message to patients, colleagues and the Estevan community, Tsoi shared that, “After 38 years, it is with mixed emotions that I am announcing my retirement at the end of June 2025.”

He described the decision as “bittersweet,” adding, “It has been an incredible privilege to care for generations of families in Estevan.”

Dr. Mike Moser is a kidney transplant surgeon who practices in Saskatoon, and he says if the family doesn’t agree, the organ donation cannot move forward. He says it happens a few times a year.

Scams, stolen bikes, and impaired drivers keep police busy

The Estevan Police Service responded to 60 calls for service over the weekend, including reports of fraud, impaired driving, thefts, and other criminal matters.

On April 3, a resident reported receiving scam emails — one claiming to be from SaskTel offering a credit, and another appearing to relate to a carbon tax rebate. No personal information was provided in either case.

Broken Arrow Youth Ranch brings out community for fundraiser with guest speakers, singers

Community members came out to help the Broken Arrow Youth Ranch over the weekend, as a fundraising supper event was held in Estevan. Over 150 people attended the event, with the final amount raised still being figured out.

The ranch takes in children under 18 for up to one year, giving them time to take part in ranchwork and better find themselves.

The Grade 12 provincial examination program will be discontinued at the end of August, the Saskatchewan government has announced.
