ECS cheer squad celebrated and council meeting following big victory
A local cheer team was recognized at last night's city council meeting following their win on a very big stage.
The ECS cheer team competed in the Best of the West competition earlier this month and won first place in their division.
Coach Bonnie Chepil-Kvamme, who guides the team along with McKenna Van De Woestyne, talked at the meeting saying the team did very well, especially for their composition.
Photo speed enforcement implemented to deter speeding, reduce collision fatalities
Motorists driving through high-speed areas or construction or school zones may notice signs indicating photo speed enforcement (PSE). SGI has an implemented PSE network across the province designed to reduce speeding and speed-related vehicle accidents.
The program uses a dual radar system to identify and track a vehicle to calculate its speed. If the vehicle meets the criteria for a speeding violation, a photo is taken including time, date, and speed.

Bruins split weekend at home, looks to win big during a three-game road trip
The Eagle Sky Estevan Bruins fought hard over the weekend for a pair of games inside Affinity Place. The team walked away with a split decision, winning heavy-handedly against the Notre Dame Hounds 9-0, but falling 7-2 the next day against the Nipawin Hawks.
Pickleball in Oxbow
The Oxbow Swimming Pool is hosting a Pickleball Tournament Saturday, March 15th in the Oxbow Memorial Hall.
Entry fee is $50 per team consisting of 2 people. Games get underway at 10am and continue throughout the day. They have a full day of events happening including, a Taco in a Bag lunch for purchase, a 50/50 raffle, calcutta, online silent auction starting March 13th and a Come & Go Supper with Beef on a Bun, 2 salads and a desert for $20.

Suspect from southeast among five arrested after drug bust by Regina police
A four-month investigation into a case of drug trafficking by the Regina Police Service resulted in the execution of eight search warrants last week in three communities, including Alameda and Frobisher here in southeast Saskatchewan. The investigation and evidence collected during the execution of the warrants resulted in the arrests of five people who are facing a number of charges.
MRI fundraiser working towards goal with over $1,200 raised from hockey game's 50/50
Estevan's MRI fundraiser is continuing with the project receiving a bit of help from the southeast's hockey community over the weekend.
The St. Joseph's Hospital Foundation made an appearance at the SHA Provincials game between the Assiniboia Rebels and the Oxbow Huskies over the weekend, educating people on the plans for an MRI in Estevan.
Lori Gervais, the Executive Director, says that they've seen a lot of community uptake with the project.
City council adopts 2025 budget after gathering public feedback
The city of Estevan is reporting their 2025 budget after receiving feedback from residents over the last month.
The original budget was proposed on January 16th, with efforts by the city and the local Estevan Chamber of Commerce to gather feedback for the budget.
City Manager Jeff Ward lays out a couple of items that came up for the city while the budget was being proposed.
Macoun Skidoo rally revs up support for town hall upgrades
The engines were roaring, and community spirit was high as Macoun Town Hall hosted a Skidoo rally over the weekend, raising funds to improve the facility and bring residents together.
Marissa Martin, secretary of the town hall, said the event exceeded expectations, with 76 registered riders and around 150 people passing through throughout the day.
“We were a little concerned leading up to it because it was so darn cold,” she said. “But it turned out to be a beautiful day.”
