A little over a year ago, the St. Joseph's Hospital Foundation (SJHF) embarked on a new journey: bringing MRI services to Estevan. After a $2 million head start courtesy of Elaine Walkom and countless generous donations from the community, the project is 73 percent funded—and the team is not letting off the gas.
Canada still top of mind for Trump, 'not a good place to be'
As President Donald Trump signed an executive order for reciprocal tariffs on Thursday that escalates his trade threats, his administration took aim at Canada's digital services tax as a major trade irritant.
The White House sent out a document calling digital taxes in both Canada and France "unfair" for taxing American companies.
Speaking in the Oval Office Thursday afternoon, Trump slammed Canada on trade and singled out its low defence spending, saying the country is a "very serious contender to be our 51st state."
Saskatchewan hosting multiple webinars over winter and spring of 2025
Producers will be able to see a wide variety of webinars for agriculture practices as the province of Saskatchewan is hosting those through the winter and spring.
Those are set to begin next week, with Crops Extension SPecialist Meghan Rosso talking about what producers can expect.
Highway 39 closed south of Midale as RCMP attends serious collision
The Estevan RCMP are currently on the scene of a serious collision on Highway 39, approximately six kilometres south of Midale.
They do not have any details on the crash to share as the investigation is currently in the preliminary stages.
RCMP say that the highway will be closed for an undetermined amount of time. Detours are in place and motorists should expect delays in the area.
They ask people to slow down and follow the instructions of emergency personnel on the scene.
WSA shows southeast seeing average runoff potential in preliminary report
The Water Security Agency (WSA) has released its preliminary spring runoff report for 2025, looking a conditions and how they may affect the coming year.
They find that although much of Saskatchewan has experienced below-normal precipitation, overall conditions have improved compared to last year.
Most water reservoirs are at above or near normal levels in southern Saskatchewan and are expected to be near normal following the spring runoff.
Watershed Climate Program Extended Until 2028
The Manitoba Association of Watersheds (MAW) has announced the continuation of the Prairie Watersheds Climate Program (PWCP) following its initial success. With renewed funding under Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada’s Agricultural Climate Solutions Program – On-Farm Climate Action Fund, the program will receive up to $40 million over the next three years. The expansion will focus in Manitoba will continue to support local producers in sustainable land management practices. Programs will continue is Saskatchewan as well but will be handled separately.
Estevan teams hit the ice as one league comes to a close for the year
With curling season nearly wrapped up some leagues are playing their final games here in Estevan.
For the TS&M doubles league, they decided who went on top of the standings with some games earlier this week.
Estevan Curling Club President Pauline Ziehl-Grimsrud lists the top-ranked teams from that league.
Estevan physician has practice restrictions lifted following CPSS investigation
A practice restriction has been lifted on an Estevan physician after an investigation was opened by the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Saskatchewan in the summer.
Dr. Alexander Arthur was placed under conditions after complaints were received against his practice.
The conditions included Dr. Arthur needing to have a practice monitor present for any professional encounters with female patients.

Repair Café returning to Estevan with free fixes and a call for volunteers
A broken toaster, a torn jacket, or a wobbly chair—rather than tossing them, the upcoming Repair Café in Estevan on March 29 invites people to bring their damaged items and get them fixed for free.
The Saskatchewan Waste Reduction Council is excited to bring the event back to the Estevan Public Library for a fourth time, and once again, local volunteers with repair skills are needed to make it happen.
