Southeast likely to feel some impact from steel and aluminum tariffs from the US

Canada is still dealing with US tariffs, as a new round has placed a 25 percent tariff on steel and aluminum imported from all countries into the US.

The move is expected to disrupt steel industries in Saskatchewan. It would compound with the general 25 percent tariff, which has been delayed until the end of the month.

Peavey Mart warns of fake websites, accounts imitating brand as stores close

Canadian retailer Peavey Industries LP is warning customers of imitation scams as the company closes its stores beloved for farm goods.

Jest Sidloski, the vice-president of marketing for the Red Deer, Alta.-based company, said Wednesday fake Facebook accounts and websites have been created pretending to be Peavey Mart, selling non-existent goods at steep discounts to defraud customers and steal their information.

He said he thinks fraudsters are using the store closures as an opportunity to scam.

NDP pushes for investment in Saskatchewan steel companies as they brace for up to 50 per cent tariffs

Steel companies across the province are searching for ways to maintain business-as-usual in the face of up to 50 per cent tariffs from President Donald Trump.

On Monday, President Trump announced he would impose a 25 per cent tariff on all steel and aluminum imports from Canada which would add on to the other tariffs that were previously announced.

President of Supreme Steel, David Fritz, says Canada’s steel industry has been 100 per cent reliant on the United States and other countries in the past, which is now posing a challenge.

Province celebrates soaring building permit value in 2024

Estevan isn't the only place seeing some success with building as the province is reporting another good-looking bunch of data from Statistics Canada.

The latest numbers show that the value of the province's building permits increased by 59.4 per cent between December 2023 and December 2024, putting Saskatchewan in second place year-over-year among all the provinces.

These figures follow up on a report from last month which also placed the province in the same position.
