Big Six Hockey League sees teams playing in provincials, playoffs over the weekend
A busy weekend for the Big Six Hockey League as teams were on the ice for both playoffs and the provincials over the last few days.
For their playoffs, the KW Oil Kings fell 6-3 to the Moosomin Rangers, sealing the series 3-0.
The Rangers will now face off against the Carlyle Cougars in the second round, with game dates yet to be decided.
The provincials were also ongoing with the Carnduff Red Devils taking on the Canora Cobras in the SHA Senior C South Quarterfinal's second match, following a 5-2 loss last week.
Trump’s invasion threats violate international law: Canadian ambassador
The Canadian ambassador to France says threats by United States President Donald Trump to invade another country violate international law.
"I'm just saying that in order to respect international law, you don't threaten your neighbours by invasion," Stéphane Dion said.

Farm groups call for reversal of Capital Gains Inclusion Rate
The over 130,000 Canadian farmers and ranchers represented by the Canadian Canola Growers Association, Canadian Cattle Association and Grain Growers of Canada are calling on the Government of Canada to reverse its decision to administer the proposed capital gains inclusion rate legislation.
Driving change: Connie Hagel’s MADD work earns national recognition
Connie Hagel was presented with a King Charles III Coronation Medal on Saturday for her contributions to Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) Canada.
Estevan Police Chief Jamie Blunden, who presented the award, said only 50 of these medals were distributed in recognition of MADD Canada efforts, with just one awarded in Saskatchewan.
“To be eligible for the award, recipients had to make a significant contribution to Canada, a province, a region, or a local community,” said Blunden. “I think she’s done an incredible job here in Saskatchewan for the community of Estevan.”
Premier responds to U.S. tariff threats
Saskatchewan Premier Scott Moe says Saskatchewan is continuing to call for a "de-escalation" of the potential trade war with the United States.
Moe spoke to the media on Monday morning, saying he supported the federal government's first round of retaliatory tariffs. However, later in the day, the federal government was able to buy more time with a 30-day postponement.

Commanding officer says Estevan a great spot for cadets after parade night
The Estevan Cadet groups held a parade last night which was attended by a special guest who changed up the night.
Lt. Col. Kevin Diduck, the commanding officer of the regional Cadet Support Unit Northwest was in attendance, who is the superior officer for Manitoba, Alberta, Saskatchewan, and the territories.
He says that he attended what was mostly a regular parade night with an extra event.
