Donald Trump signals 25 per cent tariffs on Canadian imports could be coming Feb. 1

U.S. President Donald Trump suggested his administration could move ahead with with 25 per cent across-the-board tariffs on Canadian imports on Feb. 1. 

He delivered the deadline on Monday evening at the White House as he signed a stack of unrelated executive orders. 

"We are thinking in terms of 25 per cent on Mexico and Canada because they are allowing vast number of people, Canada is a very bad abuser also, vast numbers of people to come in and fentanyl to come in," he told reporters Monday night.

More than a third of Canadians turn to online info due to lack of doctor access: poll

A new poll suggests more than a third of Canadians say they have no choice but to seek health information online because they don’t have access to a doctor, further highlighting challenges posed by an ongoing physician shortage. 

The online survey by the Canadian Medical Association and Abacus Data conducted last November found that 37 per cent of respondents used medical advice they found online because they couldn’t access a doctor or a medical professional for help. 

Cold weather strains vehicles, poses dangers for towing crews

Extreme cold temperatures have been wreaking havoc on vehicles, with battery failures and breakdowns among the most common issues reported. The severe weather is causing headaches for motorists, while also putting extra strain on those working to keep the roads clear and vehicles running.

The main issues reported include breakdowns, battery failures, and other related problems.

"Batteries get a little older and don’t start vehicles, and at temperatures like -34°C, it really takes a toll on many vehicles," said Richard Fillion of Fillion Towing and Recovery

RCMP asking residents to keep an eye out for stolen F-350


The RCMP is asking residents to be on the lookout for a Grey 2005 Ford F350 with Manitoba license plate LEM 484 that was stolen on January 6th, 2025. 

They state that the MB plate could have changed or has now been removed.

 The F350 also has a slip tank in the back.

They ask that people do not approach the vehicle and instead report any sightings to Esterhazy RCMP or call 310-RCMP.

Estevan Fire and Rescue Responds to Multiple Calls, No Injuries Reported

Last week, Estevan Fire and Rescue responded to multiple calls, including vehicle collisions, a gas leak, carbon monoxide alarms, and a structure fire. No injuries were reported in any of the incidents.

On January 14, Estevan Fire and Rescue was dispatched to a two-vehicle collision at the corner of Kensington Avenue and Rooney Road. Upon arrival, the duty officer noted that the vehicles had already been removed from the roadway, and no further assistance from the fire department was required.

Charges against Estevan police officer heard in court following SIRT investigations

An Estevan Police Service constable has been charged with multiple offences following two separate investigations by the Saskatchewan Serious Incident Response Team (SIRT).

Const. Vaughn Golden, a two-year member of the force, faces charges including assault, uttering threats to cause bodily harm, mischief under $5,000, and failing to comply with a condition of an undertaking.
