Saskatchewan hosting events as provincial ag events come into focus

With 2025 getting started Saskatchewan will be the host of a number of agriculture events over the next two months, with the province's Ministry of Agriculture preparing for those.

Besides the larger agriculture shows happening across the prairies, the province's Regional Roundup and the Celebrating Rural Ranching Women events are just around the corner.

Saskatchewan announces increased border security with new plans and 16 redeployed officers

The Saskatchewan government has announced a new plan to deal with border security between the province and the United States with their Saskatchewan Border Security Plan (SBSP).

The plan will allow the Ministry of Corrections, Policing, and Public Safety to mobilize Provincial Protective Services (PPS) officers to assist provincial police services and federal agencies in boosting law enforcement near the border.

Rising costs and aging infrastructure challenge Estevan's maintenance plans

During recent budget discussions, City officials addressed the increasing challenges of maintaining aging facilities amid rising utility costs and inflation. To navigate these challenges, the City is focusing on essential upgrades, including the replacement of outdated boilers, structural repairs, and the implementation of water-efficient improvements, while shifting toward a more proactive maintenance strategy.

Estevan Bears battle through busy start to 2025 with mixed results

The U18AAA Estevan Great North Bears have kicked off 2025 with a mixed start, securing two wins and one loss in their first three games of the new year.

The team hit the ice on Jan. 8, facing the Regina Pat Canadians at home. The Bears dropped the game 6-2. They then hit the road for a doubleheader against the Battlefords Stars, where they earned a victory in both games.

How would tariffs influence local gas prices?

The looming threat of potential tariffs on Canadian exports into the United States would impact pricing on a variety of goods and services, including gasoline and oil, on both sides of the border.

Patrick De Haan, head of petroleum analysis for GasBuddy, believes if United States President-Elect Donald Trump follows through with his tariffs, gasoline prices in Canada could drop.

Council discusses community safety and well being plan, supports mental wellness dinner

At a recent council meeting, members addressed the Estevan Community Safety and Well-Being Plan (ECSW) as well as the upcoming Courage and Community Dinner.

The ECSW Plan, developed through collaboration with more than 20 agencies and the Ministry of Policing and Public Corrections' Community Safety and Well-Being Branch, was finalized in 2024 after starting development in 2023. The report provides valuable insights and strategies to enhance community safety and wellness.

Bruins make major moves in SJHL trade deadline

As the Canadian Junior Hockey League's Trade Deadline came into effect on Friday, the Eagle Sky Estevan Bruins made a number of moves.

The included six players moving out and six others moving into the organization.

The biggest move of the day had Bruins captain Cade Kennedy traded to the Humboldt Broncos in exchange for a Player Development Fee. 

Kennedy registered 12 points (five goals, seven assists) in 30 games this season, prior to the trade and was acquired by the Bruins ahead of last year’s trade deadline.

CJ1150 is the new home of the Saskatchewan Rush in Estevan

The Saskatchewan Rush are pleased to announce a new partnership with Golden West Broadcasting to extend our radio coverage of away games across the province.  

The partnership features seven away games being broadcast with live play-by-play on CJ1150. Fans will be able to tune in to all the action on the road, starting with the pre-game show and closing with the fan-driven interactive post-game show. 

Estevan skaters bring home five medals from Dalmeny

Eight skaters from the Estevan Skating Club showcased their skills at the Dalmeny Regional Skating Competition over the weekend, bringing home five medals.

The event, which drew over 100 athletes, was a milestone for some Estevan skaters, including one making her competition debut.

“It was a great turnout,” said Ashley Piper, head coach of the Estevan Skating Club. “For one of our skaters, it was her first competition ever, so it was a really positive experience for everyone.”
