As winter approaches, one key focus of public works is snow removal and ice control. Councillor Shelley Veroba raised concerns about the snow buildup on Kensington and Souris Avenues, particularly how it forces pedestrians closer to traffic.

Carter Beck re-signs to Saskatoon Berries after standout all-star performance

A southeast-born player is headed to the big leagues as the Saskatoon Berries announced that Carter Beck would be re-signing.

Beck, the 2024 WCBL Most Outstanding Player & Rookie of the Year, had a great performance in his first year, showing off a batting average of .374, 11 homers, 53 runs, 38 RBI and 19 stolen bases in 51 games played.

In their release, Beck said that "It was a super easy decision to come back, especially with how well the Jam Fam treated us all year."

EFR sees busy days and misfiring sprinklers in new year's calls

It was a tough start to January for Estevan Fire Rescue as the southeast felt some extremely cold temperatures as calls were rolling in.

EFR Chief Rick Davies sent in some of the calls that they've responded to over the start of 2025.

In the dead of night on New Year's Day at 3:30 a.m., a crew was alerted to a commercial fire alarm in the central part of the city. After arriving crews found the sprinkler system had activated but no fire was present. The crews assisted with shutting down the system.

Wall reflects on the Trudeau years

To comment on the end of Justin Trudeau's time as Prime Minister, Brad Wall had to break one of his mother's rules.

"My mom taught me, as most moms did, that we should probably not say anything if we don't have anything nice to say," the former Saskatchewan Premier said. "I know how she felt too about the Trudeau government so maybe she'd be OK with it."

Mixed results for EPS: Impaired driving drops, property crimes spike in 2024

The Estevan Police Service (EPS) has reported mixed results in its most recent statistics for 2024. Police Chief Jamie Blunden said the numbers reflect ongoing challenges, while also showing progress in some areas, such as impaired driving.

Blunden noted a 27 per cent drop in alcohol-related impaired driving incidents in 2024. However, cases of impairment due to drugs increased by 13 per cent, a trend Blunden said highlights the need for more public education.
