Extreme cold warning plunges first weekend of the year into freezing conditions

Online AGM for Farm and Food Care Saskatchewan on January 8th

Farm and Food Care Saskatchewan’s annual general meeting or AGM is on January 8th. It is an online AGM both recapping the 2024 year as well as looking ahead to the 2025 growing year. Anyone interested is invited to join and learn about the inner workings of Farm and Food Care Saskatchewan and will be introduced to a new organization created in partnership called Canadian Food Focus. Christmas Tree Disposal: Drop yours off by January 10th

As the holiday season comes to a close, it’s time to bid farewell to your Christmas tree. If you're unsure where to dispose of it, here’s what you need to know:

A drop-off location for natural Christmas trees will be available until January 10th. The designated bin is located on the east side of City Cemetery Road, just south of the cemetery gates.

The bin is for organic tree waste only – no garbage or plastic will be accepted. Before dropping off your tree, be sure to remove all ornaments, tinsel, and other decorations to ensure proper recycling."

From checkstops to coyotes: Estevan Police handle varied calls over New Year

The Estevan Police Service closed out 2024 and began the new year with multiple enforcement actions, including check stops, arrests, and investigations into theft, assaults, and bylaw concerns.

On Dec. 31, police conducted multiple high visibility check stops, inspecting 127 vehicles for sober drivers. Officers made 18 mandatory Approved Screening Device demands, with all drivers providing breath samples within the pass range.

A report of a stolen Xbox was filed the same day. Police have taken statements, and the investigation remains ongoing.

Saskatchewan’s premier says affordability will continue to be their focus in the new year

When thinking about everything that took place in 2024, Saskatchewan’s premier says the biggest highlight of the year would have to be the economy.

Scott Moe says the mining, agriculture and oil industries stand out to him.

“In particular, to the northwest of Saskatoon is seeing record investments into some of the most sustainable oil production on Earth.”

However, a threat to Saskatchewan- and Canada’s economy looms. Moe says the biggest obstacle that the province faces is the threat of 25 per cent tariffs on Canadian goods from President-elect Donald Trump.
