EFR keeps the help coming even as heated week bakes the southeast

The Estevan Fire Rescue continued to answer calls across the community last week, even as the heat reached extreme levels in the city. Chief Rick Davies recounted some of the calls their crews went on over the past week.

On August 18, at around 11:30 a.m., crews were dispatched to a commercial fire alarm in the Northeast area of the city. Upon investigation, the alarm was found to be due to a cooking-related issue. Crews ventilated the property and ensured the alarm was reset.

Saskatchewan finalizes trade mission to Asia


The dates are set Premier Scott Moe's trade mission to Asia runs September 6th to 12th.

It's a very important region for the province ... In 2024, Saskatchewan exported over $10 billion to Asia—$4.4 billion to China, $929 million to Japan and 162 million to South Korea.

The goal is to reinforce future trade opportunities and engage with China on their temporary duties on peas and canola.

The Premier has invited Prime Minister Mark Carney and any other federal ministers  to join the trade mission.

Estevan Police respond to morning collision, urging caution at busy intersections

Emergency crews were dispatched early Monday morning to the intersection of Fourth Street and Second Avenue following a two-vehicle collision that fortunately resulted in no serious injuries.

“Just before 8:00 am, Police, EMS, and Fire were all dispatched,” said Inspector Tyler McMillen of the Estevan Police Service. “EMS checked everyone out at the scene, and they were sent on their way. One driver has been charged for proceeding from a stop sign before it was safe to do so.”

Estevan Motor Speedway holds championship races, crowning five after challenging season

The Estevan Motor Speedway hosted the final races of their season last night, as racers grabbed their final points on the way to the championships. All five classes were on the speedway as the season came to an end, crowning five winners.

Estevan Kinettes fire up the grill for Telemiracle 50

The Estevan Kinette Club brought the community together with sizzling support for a great cause. On a cloudy afternoon outside the Co-op, the Kinettes hosted a hamburger and hot dog sale, raising funds for Telemiracle 50, Saskatchewan’s long-running telethon that supports medical needs across the province.

“We’re here thanks to the Co-op, raising money for Telemiracle 50,” said Krissy Wallman, the Telemiracle representative for the Estevan Kinettes. “It’s a great way to get the community involved and support a cause that helps so many.”

Harvest operations are just getting underway in Alberta. 

Alberta Agriculture's latest crop report shows two per cent of the crop has been combined. That's down from the 5-year average of eight per cent and the 10-year average of six per cent.

Warm, dry conditions in the Southern part of the province are helping with the harvest, while the cooler temperatures in the North West, North East, and Peace regions are slowing crop maturity and delaying harvest.

APAS and SUMA push for action on tariffs and global trade

The Agricultural Producers Association of Saskatchewan and the Saskatchewan Urban Municipalities Association (SUMA) are calling for swift action to address ongoing trade tariffs that continue to impact farmers.

APAS met with Kody Blois, the Parliamentary Secretary to the Prime Minister when he was in Saskatoon for last week's canola meeting. 

APAS President Bill Prybylski emphasized the urgency of resolving tariff disputes with China and the United States, which have disrupted normal trade flows and hurt our agricultural economy.
