CN Rail seeing good grain movement following record week and weather disaster

With the winter approaching rapidly CN Rail is looking at a lot of movement coming as winter approaches the prairies.

With plenty of grain left in prairie bins following the harvest, CN Rail will be moving quite a bit of that to buyers over the coming months.

Assistant Vice President of Grain at CN Rail David Przednoweck says that they've been seeing a lot of movement over the previous two weeks.

The Estevan Legion presented the first poppy of the year to a local veteran to kick off this year's fundraising efforts. 

Craig Bird and Legion president Frosty Forrest presented the first poppy for Estevan's poppy campaign to World War II veteran Jim Spenst at the Estevan Nursing Home.

Hundreds of Saskatchewan labourers rally for change ahead of provincial election

Nearly 500 nurses, educators, steel workers, transit workers and more rallied Thursday in front of the Saskatoon Cabinet Office. The demonstration comes on the second day of the Saskatchewan Federation of Labour Convention. President of CUPE Saskatchewan Kent Peterson says workers in both the public and private sectors have had enough of Scott Moe, and the group encourages residents to vote for change on October 28th.

Latest crop report shows Saskatchewan is on the cusp of harvest completion

Saskatchewan has just a bit more work to do before harvest is done with the latest crop report showing the province's progress.

According to their report harvest progress increased by two per cent between October 8 and 14, currently sitting at 99 per cent complete.

Harvest has been fully completed by producers in the southeast, southwest and west-central regions. The northeast nearly has its crops harvested with that area reporting 99 per cent completion. The east-central and northwest regions are just barely behind the pack with both having 98 per cent complete.

Elecs boys volleyball team prepare for Regina tournament after rivalry win

They've done it again. 

The ECS Elecs Senior Boys Volleyball team dominated the WCS Eagles on Tuesday night, walking away as the winner of this year's Co-op Challenge alongside the senior girls team. Just like in game 1, the boys were able to sweep their rival with 33-31, 25-19, and 27-25 results respectively. Head coach Bryton Such was happy with the team's performance on the court.

Federal government announces massive drop in immigration targets as Liberals make major pivot

The federal government is slashing immigration targets to levels that will flatten population growth as Prime Minister Justin Trudeau admits the government did not get the balance right after the COVID-19 pandemic.

The government had targeted bringing in 500,000 new permanent residents in both 2025 and 2026.

Next year's target will instead be 395,000 new permanent residents, and that will fall to 380,000 in 2026 and 365,000 in 2027.
