Education minister speaks on new assessments coming to Saskatchewan schools
New Saskatchewan Minister of Education Everett Hindley is looking at how the province will be testing kids in new ways.
The province released details of a plan this week to develop a Saskatchewan student assessment program that will provide data on how students are doing in core subject areas.
It is part of what they're calling a renewed focus on getting back to basics in education.
Liberals, NDP pass bill to enact two-month GST holiday in House of Commons
The Liberals' GST holiday bill is one step closer to becoming law after it was passed by a majority of the House of Commons late Thursday night.
The two-month tax break covers dozens of items, including children's clothes and toys, video games and consoles, Christmas trees, restaurant and catered meals, wine, beer, candy and snacks. It would take effect on Dec. 14 and run until Feb. 15, 2025.

Estevan Wellness Committee gives a glimpse into future help for residents of Estevan
Estevan Community Wellness is establishing itself in the community by releasing its newest plan to Estevan.
In an announcement at Affinity Place, some of the gathered members announced the initiative's new efforts to help keep Estevan safe and connected.
The group first began as a committee under a pilot project in 2023 - bringing together community members in various sectors in order to help promote wellness.
Shelley Veroba, a city councillor and a member of Estevan Community Wellness, talked about some of their hopes for the program.

Creighton Lodge kicks off the holidays with festive market fun
Creighton Lodge ushered in the holiday season on Tuesday with a Christmas market that delighted both residents and the community.
“It was our first one we did at this size since COVID, and it went over really well,” said manager Shelley Veroba.
The event, designed to bring the holiday spirit to the lodge, allowed seniors to shop alongside their families or purchase gifts without leaving the facility.
Canadian soldier dies of medical complications while serving in Belgium
A Canadian soldier deployed to Europe has died of medical complications.
The Canadian Armed Forces says Lt.-Col. Kent Miller was serving in Casteau, Belgium, when he died Monday.
It says he was serving under Operation Unifier, an Armed Forces program that trains Ukrainian military and security personnel in battlefield tactics and advanced military skills.
The military says Miller was an engineering officer with 24 years of experience in the Armed Forces.
