Southeast harvest at 98 per cent completed following warm fall season
Harvest is close to wrapped up for the southeast according to the latest crop report released by the provincial government.
In the entirety of the southeast region, harvest is 98 per cent completed. Broken down by region, census area 2 - which includes Avonlea, Fillmore, Minton, Radville and Weyburn - has reached 100 per cent, with all other southeast areas within 95 per cent complete.

Oxbow Farmers Market to host 4th Annual Fall Festival
The Oxbow Farmers Market’s 4th Annual Fall Festival is set for October 19 at the Oxbow Community Hall, featuring a day filled with local vendors, family activities, and a special fundraising initiative. The event will run from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
This year’s festival aims to raise funds for a new gazebo at the market's summer location, a project embraced by the community. "We are super excited to continue doing this, and our community has responded so well year after year," said Marilyn Simons.
Saskatchewan will need 15,000 workers in the mining industry in the next decade
Due to growth in the sector and an aging workforce, 15 thousand workers will need to be hired by 2034 to fill the vacancies in Saskatchewan’s mining industry.
That’s from Pam Schwann, President of the Saskatchewan Mining Association. She says according to the latest Mining Labour Market Report, the number one priority is for more people to get involved in the trades.
She says right now, 15 per cent of Saskatchewan’s work force resides out of province and comes into Saskatchewan to work.

The Wake will be held on Wednesday, October 9, 2024 at 5:00 p.m. at the White Bear First Nations Community Hall. The traditional feast will commence at 12:00 noon on Thursday, October 10, 2024, at the same location, followed by the Funeral Service and giveaway. Interment will take place in the Bigstone Cemetery, White Bear First Nations.
Police remind drivers to be careful following collision with child on bicycle
The Estevan Police Service is reminding drivers to be careful when it comes to bicyclists in the city following a collision with a minor earlier this week.
In a release dated October 8, EPS members say they responded to a vehicle-on-bicycle collision at the intersection of 4th Street and 14th Avenue shortly after 8 a.m. EMS assessed the 8-year-old who was riding the bicycle and found only minor injuries to the child.
The vehicle's driver ended up charged under the Traffic Safety Act.
