The Estevan Police Service is informing the public that there will be police training in public later this week.

The Joint Tactical Support Team, consisting of members from the EPS and the Weyburn Police Service, will be training in the 1900 block of 1st Street.

As well some practice will be taking place at Willow Park Greens, with the specific trailers unspecified.

That will take place on October 3, with increased police presence in the area.

The Estevan Curling Club is set for a bustling season with a variety of upcoming events, school programs, and a much-anticipated bid to host the 2026 Scotties Tournament of Hearts. Manager Pauline Zeil Grimsrud outlined what the season holds, noting excitement around both community and competitive curling.

News coming from the provincial government will be sparse over the next month as rules around government communications during the election have come into effect.

With heavy hearts, the family wishes to announce Lorna Foster, late of Estevan, SK passed away peacefully on Saturday, September 28,2024 at St. Joseph’s Special Care Home, Estevan, SK at the age of 78 years.

The latest edition of Coffee Talk highlighted the community's impressive efforts to bring an MRI machine to St. Joseph's Hospital. Executive directors Lori Gervais, from the St. Joseph’s Hospital Foundation, and Candace Kopec, from St. Joseph’s Hospital, provided updates on the fundraising progress and the overwhelming community support they've seen so far.

The Town of Lampman was chosen to host a party this Saturday for Game Day - the Riders on the Road presented by McDougall Auctioneers.

The Saskatchewan Roughriders will be in Edmonton to face the Elks at 5 p.m., which will be aired on the big screen in the Lampman Rink.

Teresa Dyck with the Town of Lampman said the free event will kick off with a parade on the north side of Main Street at 4 p.m., ending up at the rink. 

With the city council nominations well underway, one new name has been entered into the pile, wading into city politics for the first time.

Robin Wog has experience with trade businesses around the city and is looking to be a part of the city's future through their council.

Wog says he's decided to take the leap with his nomination so that he can help out the city.

With aching hearts, the family wishes to announce that Leslie Prabhu, late of Estevan, SK passed away at St. Joseph’s Special Care Home on Friday, September 27, 2024 at the age of 85 years.

Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, October 4, 2024 at 10:30 a.m. with Rev. Thuy Nguyen presiding. Interment will take place at Estevan City Cemetery. Please join the family for a time of lunch to be held in the church auditorium. 

The City of Estevan has announced a pair of closures happening today on roads that'll close and slow down some streets.

The first closure is on the 1000 block of 2nd Street, closed for sewer replacement. The closure will also include the south sidewalk.

As well, starting at 9:30 a.m., the 900 block of 4th Street will have single-lane access due to groundwater sampling.

The public si asked to slow down and use caution in these areas as the work goes on today.

As war spread in the Middle East on Tuesday, Foreign Affairs Minister Mélanie Joly "unequivocally" condemned Iran's move to fire dozens of missiles into Israel and called for no further escalation in the war from all sides.

Joly also begged Canadians in Lebanon to leave immediately as Israel began what it is calling a limited ground operation against Hezbollah targets in the southern part of that country.
