Estevan Oilers triumph in Highway 39 rivalry, look ahead to playoffs

The U14 Estevan Oilers secured a statement win over the Weyburn Falcons this weekend, avenging their only loss of the season with a commanding 28-1 victory. The Oilers' grit and adaptability were on full display, as the team overcame a short roster to dominate their Highway 39 rivals.

“We ended up winning the game 28 to one, it was very hard-fought game for both sides,” said Christian Pfiefer, head coach of the Oilers. Adding that the team once again showcased their resiliency.

Estevan sees intense winds as low-pressure system brings chill and gales

Estevan was on the list of communities hit by a wind warning yesterday, with heavy gusts being reported across the prairies.

That whipped up wind drastically, with more southern areas such as Estevan the worst hit.

That came in thanks to a system which developed over the day, explains Environment Canada Meteorologist Danielle Desjardins.

The Strike at the Port of Vancouver may be over, but we could see more disruptions to Canada's Supply Chain.

Late Friday, the Grain Workers Union Local 333 agreed to a tentative four-year deal with the Vancouver Terminal Elevator Association taking them through December 31, 2027.

The four-day strike involved over 600 workers at the six bulk grain export terminals at the Port owned by Viterra and Richardson International, G3, Cargill and Alliance Grain.

Western Grain Elevators Association noted that workers were back on the job Saturday morning.

Economic Analysis released for Lake Diefenbaker's Westside Irrigation Rehabilitation Project

The Province has released an Economic Analysis for the Westside Irrigation Rehabilitation Project (WIRP),  the first part of the overall Lake Diefenbaker Irrigation Projects. 

The Minster Responsible for the Water Security Agency David Marit says the KPMG LLP analysis shows a $5.9 billion increase in Gross Domestic Product.

Maria Baerg drew her final breath on Friday, September 27, 2024 at St. Joseph’s Hospital, Estevan, SK at the age of 88 years.

A Public Visitation will take place at Hall Funeral Services on Sunday, October 6, 2024 from 2:00 p.m.-4:00 p.m.  Cremation will follow and a Celebration of Maria’s Life will be held in the Spring of 2025.

Eagle Sky Estevan Bruins get bucked off in 2-1 loss to Melfort Mustangs

The Eagle Sky Estevan Bruins have yet to see their first win of the season but got close in their recent match against the Melfort Mustangs.

The Mustangs had a strong start in the first periods, going up 2-0, with the Bruins only managing to get one in the third period and failing to catch up.

Head Coach Jason Tatarnic believes that the team did well despite the scoring deficit.

Estevan intersection under construction, blocking access for the day

The city of Estevan announced that one intersection will be closed off as crews are working through the day.

That intersection will be located at the corner of Nicholson Road and Grundeen Crescent, in the north end of the city.

The city thanks citizens for their patience during the construction.

The family wishes to announce that Margaret Zelionka passed away peacefully on Tuesday, September 24, 2024 at the Redvers Care Home at the age of 86 years.

A Memorial Service will be held on Tuesday, October 1, 2024 at 2:00 p.m. at the Chapel of Hall Funeral Services, Redvers, SK with Rev. Lourdhu Raju Bandhanadam presiding. Interment will follow at the Redvers Town Cemetery.
