If you're still seeing mushrooms pop up on your front lawn or driveway, you're not alone.  However, if you're tempted to fry it up with a good dose of butter and your favorite spices, it's best not to, unless you're a seasoned mushroom forager.

Foraging for mushrooms has become a popular past time for many Manitobans.

The Souris Cooperative Daycare Centre is hosting a seasonal fundraiser to raise money for their new outdoor play area.

The local daycare needed some serious upgrades and additions for the kids in their Infant and Preschool programs, coming to a cost of about $100,000.

Lucas Newman had three goals and an assist as the defending Westman High School Hockey League champion Vincent Massey Vikings downed the Virden Golden Bears 10-1. Tyler Rogers added a pair of goals for the Vikings while singles went to Brady Wiltsy, Drew Young, Addax Egan, Theron McGregor and Owen Deleau. Shane Ritchie had the lone goal for Virden.

Taylor Lockhart had two goals and an assist and the Southwest Cougars defeated the Parkland Rangers 5-1. Eric Berger, Shane Elder and Connor Hoemsen also scored for the Cougars who have won five of their last six games.

Canada announced the details of a $64.8 million military aid package to Ukraine Friday as National Defence Minister Bill Blair attended a NATO defence ministers meeting in Brussels.

Ukraine's ongoing war with Russia was a key topic at the meeting, and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy addressed the ministers during the meeting.

NATO Secretary-General Mark Rutte, chairing his first NATO defence ministers' meeting since taking the role earlier in October, said the alliance's members are on track to deliver almost $60 billion in security assistance to Ukraine.

The Turtle Mountain Souris Plains Heritage Association (TMSPHA) has been sharing local history for many years, through their Vantage Points book series, through their website and podcasts, through topics of discussion and storytelling at their annual history seminar featuring guest speakers, as well as through their latest documentary type films.

The group has just completed their third film, Whitewater Lake - The Beauty and The Challenge, featuring the history that surrounds Whitewater Lake in its proximity to the Turtle Mountains to the south.

City of Brandon Engineering Department Proposes Speed Reduction Near Brandon University Campus

The City of Brandon engineering department is proposing a reduction in the speed limit around the Brandon University campus, particularly near the Healthy Living Centre.

The university campus sees significant non-vehicle traffic, including pedestrians, cyclists, and users of wheeled transportation. Reducing vehicle speeds aims to enhance reaction times in areas with higher interaction between vulnerable road users and vehicular traffic.

On October 17th a call was received of a male with a gun at Brandon's ER. Upon members arriving there had been no incident described in the call. Security cameras were also checked with no result. The 45-year-old male caller was arrested and later released with a Public Mischief charge. Court date of December 19th, 2024.

Update #3 - Sprague RCMP search for missing female

On October 19, 2023, Ywanna (Jean) Backman was reported missing to RCMP.

It has been one year since that call was received and the investigation into her disappearance remains very much ongoing.
