Peter Giesbrecht, 91, of Winnipeg formerly of Gretna, passed away Wednesday, October 2nd at Winnipeg. He is survived by his loving wife Anne of 71 years; son Brian (Almuth) and children Heather and Joel; son Rod (Viola) and children Amanda and Jessica; daughter Sharon (Daryll) and children Nathan, Jillian, and Carlie. He is further survived by fourteen great-grandchildren and two sisters.

A private celebration of life for Darren Keith Orchyk will take place.

The funeral service for Henriette “Hattie” Wieler will be held Sunday, October 20th at 2pm at Birchwood Funeral Chapel, Steinbach with burial prior to the service at Grunthal Cemetery.
A come and go viewing will be held Saturday, October 19th from 7 to 8pm.

The celebration of life for Antonion Tony Sr. Cianflone will be held Saturday, 11am at Letellier Community Centre with ash interment at Letellier Cemetery.

Sports Update - Wednesday, October 9th
The Provincial High School Cross Country Championships take place today in Clearwater hosted by Prairie Mountain High School. 1,100 runners are expected to compete in the junior varsity and varsity divisions. Zone 9 athletes attending the provincials include runners from Boissevain School and Killarney Collegiate.

Poilievre barred from speaking in House for not withdrawing remark about Joly
Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre was not allowed to speak in the House of Commons Tuesday as his public feud with Foreign Affairs Minister Mélanie Joly spilled into a second day.
House Speaker Greg Fergus delivered the penalty to Poilievre in the morning, a day after he asked the leader of the opposition to withdraw a remark accusing Joly of pandering to supporters of the terrorist organization Hamas.
Virden Royal Purple at Valleyview C-Store to Aid Domestic Violence Victims this Friday
The Virden Royal Purple has partnered with Valleyview Co-op to raise funds and awareness for those fleeing domestic violence by collecting toiletries and donations this Friday, (October 11th) at the Valleyview C-Store in Virden from 11 am to 6 pm.
"We had wanted an opportunity to meet the public so that the public could be informed about brain injury awareness and intervention, and what we are doing in the community to help those survivors," shares secretary of the local Virden chapter of the Royal Purple. Bayliss is also Vice President of the National Canadian Royal Purple.
