Brandon University (BU) is proud to announce the recipients of the 2025 Undergraduate Student Research Awards (USRAs), highlighting the exceptional talent and innovation of BU students. This year's group of awardees also marks the 1025th research grant awarded at BU, an important milestone as we celebrate our 125th anniversary as an institution.

On April 13th at 9:03AM police received a call of a male sleeping in someone’s vehicle in the 800 block of Rosser Avenue. The vehicle owner had attempted to make the unwelcome guest leave the vehicle prior to calling the police. Police attended and a 31-year-old male was arrested and held in detention cells for Breach of the Peace.

On April 11, 2025, shortly after 11:00 am, police came across a 45-year-old male in the 600 block of Princess Ave who was wanted on an outstanding arrest warrant.  Following his arrest, he was found to be in possession of two knives.  He was lodged to appear in court.

Update – Blue Hills search for missing 78-year-old male

The 78-year-old male from Carberry, Donald Pashke who was reported missing to RCMP on April 12, 2025, has been located deceased.

Investigation continues pending the results of the autopsy.

On Saturday, April 12th, Blue Hills RCMP received a report of Paschke missing from a residence on Main Street in Carberry.

AAFC Lethbridge research team explores new uses for field pea

Dr. Wade Abbott and his research team at AAFC Lethbridge are embarking on a groundbreaking study aimed at unlocking new possibilities for the humble field pea, a crop primarily known for its use in food production.

The project will explore underutilized aspects of the legume, including its protein, starch, and fibre, with an eye on developing new food and non-food products that could benefit both the agricultural and industrial sectors.

Blue Bomber Nick Hallett shares his story, shares his faith, with Killarney students

Winnipeg Blue Bomber Nick Hallett visited students and staff at Killarney's Lakeside Christian School last week through the Athletes in Action initiative.

#21 Hallett plays defensive back is 6 feet and weight 195 lbs.  He's the player who looks for chances to intercept, quick retrievals for a touchdown sprint, or to bag the quarterback when the opportunity strikes.

Little Cowboy Wins Big: Miller Cowan takes home Co-op Future Farmers Contest Prize

You can't get much cuter than this!  Miller Cowan is the Grand Prize winner of the Co-op Future Farmers Contest with his adorable picture of being out in the pasture.  Mom, Brooke, submitted the picture with hopes to win the $500 Co-op gift card. 

The picture of her little cowboy stole the hearts of both the Co-op panel as they needed to bring the hundreds of submissions down to just 5 photos finalists.  The community vote took place online as well as at the Royal Manitoba Winter Fair a few weeks ago with literally thousands casting their votes.

School tax increases raise questions about Manitoba's property tax changes

Recent increases in school taxes have put a dent in the Manitoba government’s estimate of how many homeowners are better off under its new tax-credit system.

"We have seen some unexpectedly high increases from school divisions," Finance Minister Adrien Sala said in an interview.
