Shamattawa RCMP searching for missing child in Northern Manitoba

Media Release - Sept 19, 2024

On September 18, 2024, at approximately 12:30 pm, Shamattawa RCMP received a report that a six-year-old boy was missing. Johnson Redhead had attended the local school and attended the breakfast program until 9:00 am, but did not arrive in class after the program ended.

Saturday is Football Day in Ponoka!

It will be a busy day of football on Saturday in Ponoka.

Todd Lewis, head coach of the PeeWee and Bantam Broncs, says they have a full day planned.

"Not only are the PeeWee Broncs and the Bantam Broncs kicking off but also the Senior Broncs are kicking off all on the same day. It's never happened in our program's history before."

Lewis mentioned that the teams will be hitting the field with a grand entry.

Tornado touches down in Langbank, potential damage under investigation

Plenty of storms have been seen in the southeast corner, pumping rain and bringing winds, but one brought something a bit more serious to the area.

A tornado touched down on Wednesday near the community of Langbank, just north of Moose Mountain Provincial Park around 4:52 p.m.

Environment Canada Meteorologist Natalie Hasell says that so far damages aren't known for the area.

Weyburn area farmers wrap up harvest, while others face rain delays

Harvest continued to move along in southeast Saskatchewan, despite some precipitation coming to the region last week. The latest crop report from the provincial Ministry of Agriculture showed the southeast has 77 per cent of the crop in the bin. This is ahead of the five-year average of 66 per cent, and the 10-year average of 67 per cent.  

Not all areas are as far along, however.  

Crime report reveals significant drop in vehicle thefts in Strathmore

Strathmore RCMP provided a policing report on crime in the town during a town council meeting on Wednesday (Sept. 18).

The report, which is available on the Town of Strathmore's website, laid out the results of several programs and crime statistics between April 1 and June 30 of this year.

Shane St. John is the City of Weyburn's new Deputy Police Chief

Weyburn's Chief of Police and Police Commission Chair are confident in the recent appointment of Sergeant Shane St. John to the role of Deputy Police Chief of the Weyburn Police Service. 

St. John, a long-serving member of the Weyburn Police Service, will officially assume his new role effective immediately, bringing extensive experience to the position.

When Crime Stoppers was introduced in Saskatchewan, Lewry was determined to get the program before our Queen City rivals. Moose Jaw created its program in 1984, one day before Regina, making it the oldest program in the province. 

Swift Current woman awarded with coveted Coronation Medal

A Swift Current resident was recently thanked by the province of Saskatchewan with the King Charles III Coronation Medal, a prestigious new medal recognizing individuals for their contributions, qualities, and services.

The Coronation Medal is the first-ever Canadian award with the symbolism of His Majesty, King Charles III to commemorate his coronation in May 2023.
