Nominees announced for Southeast Saskatchewan Women of Distinction Awards

Women making a difference in their workplaces, communities, and industries were celebrated Wednesday as the nominees for the Southeast Saskatchewan Women of Distinction Awards were announced at a high tea luncheon.

This year’s theme, Lesson in Leadership, was introduced by Becky Cassidy, chairperson of the awards. She emphasized that leadership is about setting boundaries and recognizing that people cannot pour from an empty cup.

EPS fields calls regarding domestic disturbances, assaults to cap off March in Estevan

A busy end to March for the Estevan Police Service as they dealt with a number of issues over the final few days.

March 28th was very busy, beginning with a report of a male tying a rope to the eaves of a local school. After speaking to the male, it was determined he wasn’t doing anything criminal and was asked to move on.

In the Trojan division, police attended to a disturbance, speaking to all parties involved and mediating the disturbance.

Over 800 Elementary School students across Central Alberta set to sing

In its 26th year Choir Kids returns April 14 and May 5 for a collaboration between elementary school choirs with the Red Deer Symphony Orchestra (RDSO). 

The event brings together elementary school choirs from across Central Alberta, some as far as Leslieville, to not only perform but also be accompanied by members of the RDSO. 

Woman dies following multiple collisions on Stoney Trail, police investigate

Calgary police are investigating after a woman was struck and killed in her vehicle on Stoney Trail in Calgary.

On Tuesday night the 57-year-old woman died following a collision in the southbound lanes of Stoney Trail N.W. by the bridge deck of Nose Drive Drive.

Police believe a Toyota Corolla was hit by an unknown vehicle, which officers say is likely a semi-truck and trailer combination.

The vehicle did not remain at the scene.

A maintenance truck was the first to arrive and provided medical aid to the woman.

Manitoba puts up money for the agricultural sector in the face of tariffs

The Manitoba government is promising $150 million for the agricultural sector to help handle tariffs imposed by the United States and China.

The province says it will provide $10 million in additional matching funds for the AgriStability program, as well as $140.8 million for business risk management programs such as AgriInsurance and AgriInvest.

Premier Wab Kinew says some of the money is being used to align with federal government changes in the cap and threshold on aid.

City council waives noise bylaws for three applicants

Swift Current city council unanimously approved waiving a trio of noise bylaws on Monday night for upcoming late-night events.

The City gave the green light to Kinetic Park, which will host a myriad of events from May till October, the Swift Current 57's, and Long Day's Night Music Festival. All of the events applied in anticipation or in the event they'll be creating excessive noise after 10 p.m.

Minister Nahanni Fontaine visits El'dad Ranch to see benefits of the program

El’dad Ranch welcomed a special guest yesterday afternoon as Manitoba’s Minister of Families, Nahanni Fontaine, visited the facility. 

In February, Initiatives for Just Communities (IJC) and seven other agencies from the Eastman region met with Minister Fontaine to discuss funding concerns, particularly regarding clinical and specialized services.
