Hope Thrift Store’s upcoming 7th Donation Day is this Wednesday
Hope Thrift Store in Morden is getting ready for its seventh Donation Day of the year. This time around, the support will be for Winkler’s Central Station, with all proceeds from sales that day going directly to the organization.
Operations Manager Warren Neufeld explained that, “We want to be a part of our community,” he said. “As much as our main focus is to support orphanages in Mexico, we also believe that we need to be a part of the local community.”
Road construction to begin on Victoria Street
The City of Winkler has confirmed that a section of Victoria Street will be closed starting Wednesday morning, July 30th, as crews begin roadwork.
The closure affects Victoria Street from 1st Street to George Avenue, with work including full road surface removal, repacking of the base, and a fresh asphalt resurfacing.

Car enthusiasts showed up rain or shine for the third annual Show N’ Shine honouring Danny Berg. Josiah Warkentin and Mackenzie Lowen have taken the lead in organizing this yearly event, as they were close to Berg, who passed away suddenly in a tragic workplace accident in 2023.
Legacy donation supports Portage non-profit projects
The Community Foundation of Portage & District has received a second generous donation from the estate of the late Richard (Dick) Lynwood Street.
Lorna Knight, executive director of the foundation, notes, “This donation was $61,250. This was the final payout from the late Richard Lynwood Street’s estate. We had received funds from this estate before, but this is the final payout as per his wishes.”
The foundation previously received $50,000 from the estate in 2023.

Lancer Ferry operational after repairs
The Lancer Ferry is back in operation.
After being closed for repairs on Sunday, the Saskatchewan Ministry of Highways reactivated the ferry on Monday.
Located north of Lancer between Highways 30 and 32, the Lancer Ferry will be operational from 7:00 AM to midnight.
