Altona police officers tackle a packed start to the month
It was a full day for police officers on duty in Altona on Saturday.
It all started early in the morning when officers were called to an intoxicated man causing a disturbance at a home. The man, however, had left before police arrived. Just before they were about to leave, however, officers noticed him walking back.
The 24-year-old was arrested under the Intoxicated Persons Detention Act and lodged in police cells until sober.

Saturday night, the Minnewasta Golf and Country Club was the venue for the Genesis House 4th Annual Unmasked Gala.
Genesis House Executive Director Angela Braun said the theme was Ruby Red to celebrate the 40th Anniversary of the organization that provides temporary shelter for women and children experiencing domestic violence.
The intimate event was sold out with 120 guests who were entertained and won prizes.
Emotions run high as Mark Wiebe takes on 100km for a cause
It was an emotional day Sunday as Altona's Mark Wiebe pushed his body and mind to the edge - all in support of men's health and cancer research.
In his own spin on the annual Movember fund raiser, Wiebe ran 100 kilometres on Sunday.
He only started running about four months ago and, instead of doing it just for himself, decided to turn it into something good for others.
"No matter where you look, you're going to have people in your life who are dealing with health issues or cancer or whatever it is," said Wiebe.
Six post-secondary students receive scholarships from Manitoba Beef producers
Manitoba Beef Producers (MBP) has announced its 2024-25 scholarship recipients with six post-secondary students from Southern Manitoba each receiving a $1,000 award. The students are all pursuing an agriculture related field of study, or acquiring a skilled trade or pursuing a career that would be beneficial to the rural economy.
The application process included preparing an essay or video submission discussing the topic, "What the beef industry means to my family, my community and Manitoba."

MacGregor fire chief and son among heroes recognized in heartfelt ceremony
In a heartfelt ceremony held on Monday October 28 at the Legislative Building, MacGregor Fire Chief Chris Leckie and 134 first responders were recognized for their bravery during a tragic incident in Carberry. The event celebrated the recipients of the Order of the Buffalo Hunt, a prestigious award acknowledging exceptional service and commitment.
Chief Leckie, who was notified by the Premier's office about the recognition, expressed pride in the collaborative efforts of all involved.
Emergency crews called to late Monday afternoon crash in Altona
There were no injuries in a late afternoon two-vehicle crash on the outskirts of Altona Monday.
According to the Altona Police Service, a vehicle turning south onto Highway 30 from Centre Ave. failed to merge properly and sideswiped another southbound vehicle on the highway.
No other details are available at this time.
Construction rapidly progressing on Bethesda Hospital expansion
The Bethesda Hospital expansion construction is rapidly progressing on the facility, and they are on track for full completion of the building in very early 2026.
That is according to Kyle MacNair, the Implementation Lead for Clinical Planning at Southern Health.
In regards to the exterior, MacNair informs they are working on the interior layers of the exterior.
