Susan Flowers stepping back from council, but not the community

Cochrane town councillor Susan Flowers has announced she will not seek a third term and says she is proud of what was accomplished over the past eight years.

“I love Cochrane and I want the best for it,” Flowers said. “But I’m just getting burnt out from the late-night meetings and the vast number of important topics we have, and the dissension on council has made it even more challenging. It hasn’t been easy.”

Help reunite lost stuffed animals and other items from annual Teddy Bears' Picnic

Over 30,000 kids and teddy bears filled Assiniboine Park on September 7 for the 36th Annual Teddy Bear Picnic. Several bears stayed longer than expected and are trying to be reunited with their owners.

Over 30,000 kids and 1,650 teddy bears learned about health sciences at the I Want To Be a Scientist tent and more than 1,900 teddy bear patients received care at the Dr. Goodbear Clinic. 

Now, the Children's Hospital Foundation is trying to help reunite the animals with their kids. 

Lacombe to celebrate new historic site Wednesday

A historic home in Lacombe has been officially recognized with a Municipal Historic Resource designation.

The Lacombe Heritage Resources Committee says the property at 5718 50th Avenue recently received the designation from the City of Lacombe.

A celebration will be held at the home Wednesday at 4 p.m., with light refreshments served.

Teddy bears come to life for a day of fun

Children's snuggly little stuffed animals came to life for a chance to entertain the kids who love them.

Debbie Mitzner and Nicole Denee hosted their annual Teddy Bear Picnic at Kinsmen Park on Sept. 6. 

Life-sized teddy bears played cornhole with children, danced, and high-fived families. The event also featured a small market and a teddy bear repair station. 

Children enjoyed music and played a game of Hot Potato, passing around a teddy bear.

Trans-Canada Highway down to one lane near Rush Lake

The Trans-Canada Highway is currently experiencing delays in the eastbound lanes near Rush Lake. 

Crews are on site, with a pilot vehicle on site to guide traffic through the one-lane restriction. 

The work zone is an eight-kilometre stretch.

Motorists are asked to expect delays, with the work scheduled for completion by 5 p.m. 

Updates can be monitored on the Highway Hotline, where drivers can stay ahead of any detours, delays or dangers on Saskatchewan roadways. 

Prairies ‘best downtowns’ list includes town north of Airdrie

Didsbury’s historic downtown has landed on a list of the best in the Prairies, according to WorldAtlas.

The website writes: “Didsbury's downtown and its well-preserved brick buildings, including its Red Brick School, are the result of early 20th-century bylaws that were put in place to prevent fires.”

Joy Smith Foundation launches trucking industry labour trafficking awareness drive

The Joy Smith Foundation has launched a new awareness campaign aimed at tackling labour trafficking in Manitoba’s trucking industry.

The campaign was unveiled Tuesday at the Rosser weigh scale during National Trucking Week, with support from the Manitoba Trucking Association and Winnipeg Crime Stoppers.

Gleichen barrel racer sees best season with home-raised horse

Long-time training and dedication have paid off for competitive barrel racer Jayden Wilson and her horse, Whisky.

Wilson, from a farm near Gleichen, and her eight-year-old gelding had a standout 2025 rodeo season, earning top honours and major recognition on the circuit. 

"It's probably the best year, the best season I've had," Wilson said. "Just all of it has been surreal." 

Raised in rodeo culture, Wilson started riding at a young age and bought her first competitive rodeo card when she was just eight.
