Historic Cheadle home lost in fire

One of the oldest homes in Cheadle was lost to a fire.

The fire was on Monday (Sept. 8) afternoon at the corner of Railway Avenue and Styl Street, with firefighters and RCMP responding to the scene.

According to the homeowner, the fire had spread quickly. Despite this, everybody made it out of the home safely.

The homeowner also thanked the public for helping the home's residents following the blaze.

Keep an eye out for power lines during harvest

With harvest underway throughout the province, SaskPower is reminding producers to keep safety in mind.

“We understand that farmers are very busy this time of year, but safety should still be top of mind when working in the fields,” said Nidal Dabghi, Director of Safety at SaskPower in a news release. “Preparation and attentiveness are key to a safe harvest. Vacant Uptowne Olds building with collapsed roof set for demolition

A vacant Uptowne Olds building with a collapsed roof, punctured walls, asbestos and extensive animal waste will be demolished under a court order, the town says.

The town said it is proceeding under the authority of the Municipal Government Act and a court order issued in early 2025.

NextAcre Real Estate Grain Rush stops at Oungre’s Ashworth Farm

Harvest is rolling along smoothly for Kelly Ashworth and the crew at Ashworth Farm and Ranch near Oungre.

“We just finished the Durham up and had our lentils done a little earlier,” said Ashworth. “Just starting on canola now, so it’s rolling along.”

While some wet straw has slowed things down slightly, the grain itself has been coming off dry. “The straw is still quite wet. It seems dry in the grain, but it’s a little at the straw,” he explained. Even so, Ashworth said yields have been strong. “Yeah, they’re actually good. We don’t have any complaints.”

Airdrie’s Inspire delivered on time, under budget

Last week, Airdrie council heard the final Inspire report as opening day is just around the corner.

Michelle Lock, director of community services with the City of Airdrie, explained that the highlight of the report is that the project is under budget.

"When we were going to the competitive marketplace, which was a little over three years ago, the cost escalation on construction projects was trending significantly higher. Since then, those costs levelled out, and we were able to take advantage of that during the tendering process."
