Silver Alert cancelled after missing senior found safe

The Winnipeg Police Service has cancelled a Silver Alert for a 76-year-old woman.

Police had issued the alert on Monday afternoon, saying the woman had not been seen since 12 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 14.

She was last seen near Shaftesbury Boulevard and Wilkes Avenue.

Just after 6:30 p.m. on Monday the WPS sent out a release saying she had been safely located. 

A Silver Alert is issued when a senior or vulnerable adult is missing or believed to be in danger. 

Storm risk hovers over Portage la Prairie region

Christy Climenhaga, a scientist with Environment and Climate Change Canada, explains that southern Manitoba faces a heightened risk of thunderstorms over the next day. Moisture is pooling across the region, with fog showing up in the southeastern prairies. She says Portage la Prairie sits on the edge of conditions favourable for severe weather, which could include slow-moving systems with hail, downpours, and strong winds.

Show homes in St. Adolphe broken into Friday night

The St. Pierre RCMP detachment responded to 47 calls for service over the weekend.

Police report that 14 of those were for traffic related offences.

There were two related to impaired driving, with one person being charged.

Police say there were five Criminal Code incidents, six related to property, three disturbances and one missing person who was later located.

Also, according to St. Pierre RCMP, two residential break-ins to show homes happened in St. Adolphe overnight on Friday. 

Trick-or-treat along the trails: Pumpkin Lane seeks local vendors

Falling leaves and pumpkin spiced coffee means that autumn is almost here. Weyburn Tourism is already preparing for fall festivities, as they seek vendors for this year's Pumpkin Lane.  

Executive Director with Weyburn Tourism, Monica Osborn, says this year marks the fourth annual event, in partnership with Prairie Sky Co-op. It involves walking the Red Coat Trail lit by pumpkins carved by the community and trick-or-treating from local businesses or organizations along the way.  

Jacob Leicht Memorial Outdoor Rink and Courts are a big hit in Humboldt

The Jacob Leicht Memorial Outdoor Rink and Courts have been a very popular spot in Humboldt this summer. 

Nestled on the south end of Centennial Park, near the Uniplex and ball diamonds, the facility includes courts for basketball, tennis and pickleball that can be used during the non-winter months.  

Director of Community and Leisure Services Mike Ulriksen says after the courts opened in May, there have been too many days where the courts were vacant. 

Alberta to add citizenship to ID cards to streamline service, protect elections

Alberta Premier Danielle Smith says her government is adding proof of citizenship markers to driver's licences and other forms of identification to streamline services and prevent election fraud.

Smith told reporters in Calgary the change would make it easier for students and the disabled to get funding, as they already have to prove Canadian citizenship to do so.

"We believe in making things better, faster and more convenient for everyone," Smith said Monday.

Portage man arrested after meth and fentanyl seized on Saskatchewan Avenue West

What began as a routine patrol for Portage la Prairie RCMP ended with a sizable drug bust on Saskatchewan Avenue West last week.

Around 3:35 p.m. on September 10, officers spotted suspicious activity in the area and stopped to take a closer look.

They approached the man they were familiar with and placed him under arrest.

A search turned up about 53 grams of methamphetamine, three grams of fentanyl, and other drug-related items.

Police estimate the drugs have a street value of roughly $6,800.

Rocky View County candidates to face online forum Oct. 1; Chamber’s first RVC event

The Airdrie Regional Chamber of Commerce will host a Rocky View County Municipal Candidates Forum online on Wednesday, Oct. 1, 2025, from 7–9 p.m.

This marks the first time the Chamber has hosted a Rocky View County Municipal Candidates Forum. A minimum of five registered candidates is required for the event to proceed.

Two dead in hit-and-run on Kenaston, impaired driving charges laid

Two people are dead and a man is in custody following a serious collision on Friday night on Kenaston Boulevard.

Winnipeg police say a 31-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene and a 25-year-old woman later died in hospital after being struck by a pickup truck just before 9:30 p.m. on Sept. 13 near Enterprise Drive.

According to a Winnipeg Police Service news release, the truck had been travelling southbound at a high rate of speed when it drove onto the shoulder and hit the two pedestrians. Police allege that the driver did not remain at the scene.

Okotoks' mayoral race now contested with second candidate

Incumbent Mayor Tanya Thorn is no longer the only candidate running for mayor of Okotoks.

Colin Langenberger, who originally registered as a council candidate, is now the second mayoral candidate.

On his campaign website, Langenberger says he entered the race "because I think it’s important that people have a choice. Right now, Mayor Tanya Thorn is running unopposed, and I believe voters should always have options."

He lists dialing back the town’s growth and freezing property taxes among his priorities.
