Funnel clouds possible in parts of Manitoba, Environment Canada issues special statement

Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement for several areas in southwestern Manitoba, warning that conditions are favourable for the development of funnel clouds on Monday afternoon.

The advisory, issued Monday afternoon, covers a wide region including Brandon, Neepawa, Carberry, Virden, Souris, Melita, Boissevain, Killarney, Pilot Mound, Minnedosa and Riding Mountain National Park.

According to the federal agency, an unstable air mass over the region may lead to the formation of isolated funnel clouds throughout the afternoon and evening.

UPDATE: Tornado Warning issued for area north of Estevan

Update: Environment Canada has issued a tornado warning in the southeast as of 2:48 p.m., with a storm located southwest of Carlyle, moving southeast at 20 km/h.

They urge people in the area to take cover immediately if threatening weather approaches. We'll have any more updates as they become available.

As today's weather system is progressing, Environment and Climate Change Canada has sent out a special weather statement for southeastern Saskatchewan and southwestern Manitoba.

Special Weather Statement issued with possibility of funnel clouds

Environment Canada has issued a Special Weather Statement for all of southwestern Manitoba, as far east as the Pilot Mound and Manitou regions due funnel cloud potential Monday afternoon.

"An unstable air mass may lead to the development of isolated funnel clouds," noted the statement. "These types of funnel clouds are generated by weak rotation under rapidly growing clouds or weak thunderstorms."

This weak rotation is normally not a danger near the ground. However, there is a chance this rotation could intensify and become a weak landspout tornado.

RCMP continue investigation into highway 39 shooting

Saskatchewan RCMP Major Crimes continue to investigate the suspicious death of a woman near Weyburn on Friday, September 12, 2025. Police may attend local businesses today and are asking anyone with security footage from the Highway #39 area to come forward.

Update on vehicle/trailer:
The owner and driver of a vehicle towing a trailer south on Range Road 2151 northwest of Weyburn have been identified. They are not connected to this investigation, and police no longer require additional information about this vehicle.

Last night, a massive band of the Aurora Borealis stretched as far as Swift Current and other southwest Saskatchewan locals. 

People from all over Saskatchewan and the rest of Canada were treated to an amazing light show of dancing interstellar winds bursting over the atmosphere. This brilliant display was visible to the naked eye from 8 p.m. until deep into the night, long after most retreated to sleep.
