More than half of Saskatchewan’s registered nurses have given serious consideration to leaving the profession entirely in the past 12 months, according to a stark new survey from the Saskatchewan Union of Nurses (SUN). The survey of over 1,600 nurses highlights the severe impacts of short-staffing on patient care, prompting the provincial opposition to declare once again that the healthcare system is "going in the wrong direction."

Saskatchewan RCMP’s Underwater Recovery Team (URT) is reminding residents to be prepared if they ever find themselves in a vehicle sinking or submerged in water.
When a vehicle enters the water, water can pour in through windows and doors, causing entrapment and creating a life-threatening situation. With more than 100,000 bodies of water in Saskatchewan, residents are urged to be ready.
SaskEnergy notes natural gas flare in the southwest
SaskEnergy has advised southwest residents of necessary controlled natural gas flaring taking place on Tuesday morning at a block valve site in the RM of Miry Creek.
The natural gas flaring is set to take place from 8:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., roughly four kilometres west of the village of Abbey.
Residents may notice a 40-foot flame coming from the temporary flare stack attached to the infrastructure during the flaring.
The flaring is needed to complete maintenance work on the natural gas line system in the area to support the reliable delivery of natural gas.
Curti acclaimed to Holy Trinity Catholic School Board
RCMP Constable Tony Curti is taking his commitment to students to a different table.
He has been acclaimed as a board member for the Holy Trinity Roman Catholic Separate School Division.
Curti will represent the Swift Current subdivision.
His acclamation means there will be no need for a byelection.
Curti also acts as the school resource officer of the Swift Current Municipal RCMP.
Rocky View Schools Superintendent looking forward to first year in role
Ryan Reed, the new Superintendent of Rocky View Schools (RVS), is excited to have his first school year underway in his new role.
Now with a week under his belt, he shared that it is still a familiar feeling.
"It's exciting to see all the people that we have in place, both here at the Education Center and in schools, get to do what they love, work with our students."
He explained that there has been a flurry of activity as everybody comes back from summer as well, but that it is an exciting time of the year.
Defence begins case in Rosetown human trafficking trial
A human trafficking trial connected to our region has resumed after a summer recess, with the defence beginning to present its case.
The proceedings against Mohammad Masum and Sohel Haider had paused in June after the Crown wrapped up its case. Among the witnesses were Cypress Hills MLA Doug Steele and former MLA Hugh Nerlien, who both testified for the prosecution.
With rain on the horizon, harvest pressure mounts across Westman Region
Harvest is back on track and farmers are pushing hard to get as much grain in the bin as possible before the rain showers come.
For many across the Westman Region the crops have done fairly well, with some crops doing exceptionally well, such as pea fields east of Killarney. For some, yields are being reported at an average of 80-85 bu/acre. Last week's Foodgrains field northeast of Killarney yielded an average of 73.44 bu/acre.
Scammers impersonating Winnipeg police in phone calls, officials warn
The Winnipeg Police Service (WPS) is warning the public after it received multiple reports of scam calls from people claiming to be WPS.
The WPS Communication Centre is continuing to receive numerous reports from people being contacted by telephone by individuals who have been identifying themselves as “Winnipeg Police”.
The reports have come from Manitobans, as well as various provinces, all indicating these calls falsely originated from the WPS non-emergency number of “204-986-6222”.
Alberta urges teachers back to bargaining, union says old offer not good enough
While the Alberta government is urging teachers to get back to the bargaining table to get out of an ongoing stalemate, their union says the province needs to move beyond reiterating a deal that teachers have already rejected.
Finance Minister Nate Horner is encouraging teachers to take a closer look at the latest offer, which he says shows respect for teachers.
"We've never left the table," Horner said in an interview Monday.
"We think this is a fair deal. We think this is a good deal."
Altona town council distributes 2025 community grants
Nineteen organizations have received 2025 community grants from Altona Town Council. According to Mayor Harv Schroeder, they were issued over the last few weeks to groups which applied and were approved by council. The grants totaled $156,100.
