Two calls for service on Tuesday for Kindersley Fire

It was a busy day for Kindersley Fire on Tuesday, as crews responded to two separate calls for service just hours apart.

The first call came in at 5:30 p.m., when rescue, traffic, and command units were dispatched to a two-vehicle head-on collision, alongside RCMP and EMS. The crash left one vehicle in the south ditch and the other about 400 feet away in the north ditch.

Each vehicle had a single occupant, and both sustained minor injuries. Emergency personnel secured the scene before being cleared for service at 6:27 p.m.

Police vehicle struck, three injured in collision on HWY 11

A police car was one of two vehicles involved in a collision Lumsden RCMP responded to at the intersection of Highway 11 and Highway 734 yesterday.

There was one officer in the vehicle, who was assessed by EMS at the scene. The three occupants of the second vehicle were transported to the hospital with what are described as non-life-threatening injuries.

The incident is still under investigation with the assistance of a collision reconstructionist and motorists may experience delays in the area.

Road closure in place in Aldersyde due to water pipeline work

Continued work on the Foothills Okotoks Regional Water Project will result in a road closure in Foothills County for several days.

From July 9 to 12, 128 Street E, south of 274 Avenue E, will be closed while crews install a supply main.

Work is scheduled from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on weekdays, and from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. on weekends.

Detours will be in place during the closure, with traffic redirected onto Highway 552.

Trial dates set and moved in Kindersley Court

Matthew Pfeiffer pleaded not guilty to multiple charges, including sexual interference, two counts of sexual exploitation, and two counts of sexual assault. His matters were adjourned to July 15, when Crown and defence are expected to schedule dates for a preliminary hearing. Pfeiffer has elected to be tried by judge and jury at the Court of King’s Bench.

You could have been fooled by how things felt downtown, but hot as it was, Moose Jaw fell short of breaking any heat records yesterday. 

We nearly hit 30°, but according to Environment and Climate Change Canada Meteorologist Crawford Luke, we had a long way to go. 

“In Moose Jaw yesterday it was 29.7°, and the old record is 36.7°. It was a hot day, but still 7° off the mark for a record,” said Luke, adding that we do have at least a fighting chance at a new record today. 

String of backyard thefts under investigation by WPS

A string of backyard thefts on June 30th were reported to the Weyburn Police Service, Deputy Chief Shane St. John believes the incidents are connected due to the timeline and location of the thefts.  

“A few different residents had some items taken from the backyard, some sheds gone through, some vehicles as well. Looks like people had tried to gain entry, one alarm had gone off.” 

Hwy 32 south of Winkler closed as crews clean up after motor vehicle accident

Shortly after 12 pm this afternoon, PembinaValleyOnline staff were made aware that roughly 2 km south of Winkler via Hwy 32, near the intersection with Road 10 N, a large object resembling an RV had fallen off a trailer onto the highway.  

According to Winkler Fire Department Deputy Chief Gary Reimer, lanes will be closed for several hours as crews set about clearing the road, and they encourage those travelling on Hwy 32 to consider alternate routes. 

People will be dancing in the plaza, again, all summer in Okotoks

For the third year, Okotokians will be able to enjoy free music and dance in the plaza all summer long.

Each Thursday night throughout summer, the Town of Okotoks is hosting their Thursday Nights at the Plaza, beginning this Thursday.

From 7 to 9 p.m. at the Olde Town Plaza (50 McRae St.) each Thursday, there will be free, family-friendly live music that everyone is invited to enjoy.

At the Plaza this Thursday (July 10), local band, The Back 40 will be taking the stage.

Rare stellar explosion could light up the night sky this year

There’s a chance we could see a white dwarf star explosion this year.

T Coronae Borealis, a binary star system and recurrent nova located roughly 3,000 light-years from Earth, is expected to erupt sometime in 2025.

According to Dr. Phil Langill, Director of the Rothney Astrophysical Observatory and Associate Professor of Physics and Astronomy at the University of Calgary, a recurrent nova is very different from a regular supernova.

Longview's long running annual event is coming up soon

Little New York Daze will be taking over the Village of Longview on July 19 and 20.

According to Saje Muraski, who has been doing markets at the event for over 20 years, people will be able to grab breakfast on-site before the parade begins.

"Saturday is parade day, and it starts out with a pancake breakfast at the community hall, which is on the parade route," Muraski explains. "And that starts at 8 o'clock in the morning. And then, the parade starts at 10 o'clock."
