All of southern Manitoba is currently under a fog advisory early Wednesday morning, including the city of Winnipeg. 

The advisory includes freezing fog with the temperature just below zero degrees. 

Certain areas have reduced visibility, so drivers should exercise caution when on the road and turn on their lights for safety. 

Visibility may be significantly and suddenly reduced to near zero.

The fog is expected to dissipate as the temperature warms up later in the morning.

The Weyburn Chamber of Commerce held their annual Ag Appreciation Night yesterday evening, offering an opportunity for the community to come together and celebrate the agriculture industry.  

The event has been held every year since 1994 with the exception of 2020. It included a dinner, guest panel of previous Golden Sheaf Award winners, and the presentation of this year's Golden Sheaf Award.

Airdrie City Council voted four to three this afternoon to introduce an automated black cart garbage collection program, marking what the City describes as a significant step toward modernizing waste management services.

The black carts are set to roll out citywide in 2026.

According to the City of Airdrie, the new program will provide each household with a standardized 120-litre black cart. This initiative is intended to streamline waste collection while reducing issues with pests and litter.

I think we have an opportunity to create something special in our city and be a destination where companies want to do business and people want to live, work and raise a family.
 
Q. Do you have experience in public service/community boards/politics?

On Nov. 5, after an ongoing investigation into firearms at a residence, Maskwacis RCMP obtained a search warrant at a known property in Montana First Nation.

During the search officers seized:

• high powered rifles;
• a handgun;
• ammunition and other dangerous weapons.

The investigation is still ongoing, and charges have yet to be laid. 

Police are actively investigating the firearms that were seized.

The snowfall that began Monday night (Nov. 4) brought increased roadside assistance wait times to the area.

According to the Alberta Motor Association (AMA) website, the average time for a tow or battery boost in Strathmore is around one hour.

However, Chad Brinston, fleet performance manager with AMA, says that wait times could have been much longer at certain times of the day. 

A new butcher's shop is looking to make sure the rural southeast areas still have access to meat cutting and packing as it takes up the slack from another operation.

The Southeast Butcher's Block Cooperative recently held the grand opening of its location in Alameda, inviting in the community and offering door prizes.

Trent Dorrance, the secretary on the board of directors, talks about the need for a new shop in the area.

On Nov. 2, around 5 p.m., the Drayton Valley RCMP attempted a traffic stop for dangerous driving on Highway 620 in Brazeau County, but the suspect fled.   

The vehicle was reported to have been stolen and was seen by witnesses tailgating and driving at excess speeds of 150 km/hr.   

During the investigation, the vehicle was abandoned, and the driver was seen attempting to flee from officers into a wooded area.

Highway 4 south of Swift Current has re-opened after a serious collision Tuesday afternoon.

Swift Current Online will have an update on this story on Wednesday as details become available from the RCMP.

Update at 4:35 p.m.

A serious collision four kilometres south of Swift Current has closed Highway 4.

The two-vehicle crash is located four kilometres south of the city's limits.

Detours are in place currently and motorists should expect delays.

A 25-year-old man from Medicine Hat has been arrested following a five-month investigation by RCMP into break-and-enters in Tim Hortons restaurants across Alberta and Saskatchewan. 

According to a news release from police, between June and October of 2024, break-and-enters were reported at 12 spots in Alberta including Brooks, High River, Hanna, Vermillion, Rocky Mountain House, Rocky View County, Strathmore, Drayton Valley, Didsbury, Stettler, and twice in Wetaskiwin.
