Seeding delays reported in Alberta
Farmers have been experiencing some rain delays, but seeding is still ahead of the five-year average of 59 per cent complete.
Alberta's latest crop report shows provincially 73 per cent of the 2025 crop is now in the ground.
The South is furthest ahead at 87 per cent seeded, followed by the Central, North West, and North East regions. The Peace Region is now at 61 per cent seeded up from 27 per cent last week.

Historic turnout at Chestermere art show
There was a historic turnout at the Chestermere Fine Art Guild's annual art show and sale.
The event took place on Saturday, May 24, at the Chestermere Rec Centre, and featured dozens of pieces showcasing the work of 14 local artists.
"I love the comradery, and new members come constantly," said Lorraine Everett, an artist with the guild. "Some leave, some stay. Most of all we enjoy each other. We all have something in common."

Alberta invests $9.3 million in the University of Calgary’s Faculty of Veterinary Medicine Diagnostic Services Unit
Alberta's livestock producers will benefit from increased funding for the University of Calgary’s Faculty of Veterinary Medicine Diagnostic Services Unit.
Agriculture and Irrigation Minister RJ Sigurdson says the government is investing $9.5 million over three years, with $3.5 million being allotted each year. The funding is earmarked for the continued development of a full-service veterinary diagnostic laboratory in Calgary.
He says the province has been supporting this project since 2020 and has been closely monitoring its impact as it continues to grow.
Alberta's Smith calls three byelections where NDP leader, separatist leader to run
Alberta Premier Danielle Smith has called three byelections to take place on June 23.
The three vacant ridings are Edmonton-Strathcona, Edmonton-Ellerslie and Olds-Didsbury-Three Hills.
Alberta NDP Leader Naheed Nenshi will run in Edmonton-Strathcona, which became vacant when former premier Rachel Notley resigned her seat late last year. It'll be Nenshi's first chance at getting a seat in the legislature since taking over the party reins last summer.
Equipment displayed at Kinsmen Park for Public Works Week
The Town of Strathmore celebrated Public Works Week by showcasing a variety of equipment in Kinsmen Park.
The event occurred May 24 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. for the second consecutive year and displayed tractors, skid steers, excavators, and heavy equipment for people to see, touch, and even honk the horns.
The town also gave away hard hats, temporary tattoos, water bottles, swag bags, and offered participants free doughnuts and coffee.

Strathmore RCMP speak about risks behind "Senior Assassin" game
Mark Wielgosz, staff sergeant with Strathmore RCMP, spoke about the risks behind the "Senior Assassin" game that's grown popular with graduating students.
On Friday, May 23, police issued a lockdown for Strathmore High School after reports of a person with a gun. An investigation revealed that the gun was a water pistol used by students participating in the game.
Road renovations begin at the Strathmore Ag Grounds
There is a temporary road closure at the Strathmore Agricultural Grounds.
According to the Strathmore & District Agricultural Society, the main road leading to the campgrounds will be closed between Monday and Wednesday as crews work on the roads.
"Wheatland County is doing this on a sponsorship for us," projects director Danielle Paddock. "They are bringing in gravel, regarding the roadway leading up to our grounds, the road in front of our rental buildings, and the road going through our campground."
