Canadian Grain Commission partners with Soy Canada for 2024 harvest
There is a new partnership delivering the Soy Quality Program to Canadian producers.
Nathan Gerelus is the manager of National Affairs at the Canadian Grain Commission, based in Winnipeg, and he says,
“We are excited to have recently partnered with Soy Canada to deliver the Soy Quality Program, and that will start with this year's 2024 harvest.”
What's the weather going to look like for Strathmore on Halloween?
Strathmore is in for some mild weather on Halloween Thursday (Oct. 31).
The day begins with an overnight low of -7°C which feels closer to -11°C due to the 15 km/h winds.
The morning will begin with a mix of sun and cloud as the wind continues, bringing in a wind chill of -10°C. As the day continues temperatures will reach as high as 4°C.
The sky is expected to be clear as the sun sets, leading to temperatures reaching an overnight low of -10°C without any wind.
Why is Chestermere Lake being lowered?
As the colder temperatures approach, the Western Irrigation District will start to draw down water from Chestermere Lake.
"Please remove any boats or property from the lake," says a news release from the city.
The work will start on Wednesday until the "desired winter elevation" is reached no later than November 11.

Plant-based milks facility did not follow listeria prevention protocol: CFIA
The Canadian Food Inspection Agency says its investigation into an Ontario facility processing plant-based milk found it was not adhering to Health Canada’s policies on listeria prevention.
The facility is still shut down after a listeria outbreak last summer linked to the plant infected at least 20 people in Ontario, Quebec, Nova Scotia and Alberta and led to three deaths.

Special ceremony set to honour veterans near Chestermere
Rocky View County will play host to a special ceremony to honour veterans in the community.
The event, which was first started by the No Stone Left Alone Memorial Foundation, will be hosted at the Garden of Peace Cemetery near Chestermere.
According to Todd Baker, lead cemetery operational coordinator with the county, when he first started working for the organization 12 years ago, he noticed there were a couple of ceremonies in Calgary where students placed poppies on the headstones of veterans. That's when he decided to take action.
Veterans food bank receives money from Strathmore music group
The Veterans Food Bank of Alberta received a $260 cheque from the Strathmore Musical Arts Society following a show by local musician Tim Isberg.
The veteran's group also received an extra $140 from Mint Pharmacy and Original Joe's, making a total of $400 donated.
The money raised through the 50/50 draw of the concert was presented to volunteer Ken Oliphent at the 104.5 More Country station on Tuesday (Oct. 29).

The Canadian Gypsum Company broke ground on a $210 million manufacturing plant earlier this year in May.
Staff with the CGC say they will be hosting public meetings for residents to learn about the new plant. The facility is expected to open by 2026.
The 214-acre site near Carseland will see the wallboard manufacturing plant service home builders, commercial construction companies, and retail partners.
