Rocky View County votes against proposed data centre
Rocky View County council voted against building a data centre campus in the county.
The vote was made at a special council meeting on Sept. 9, with the vote ending 6-1 opposed to the centre.
Strathmore looking for volunteers to join policing committee
The Town of Strathmore is looking for volunteers to serve as a liaison between town council, the local RCMP detachment, and the town's citizens.
On Thursday (Sept. 11), the town shared a link to their Municipal Policing Committee page, asking interested residents to apply for the positions.
The committee will include one member of council and four members of the public, with one of those public positions available for a youth representative. All four public member positions are still open.
Alberta's Smith says she found unprecedented common ground in meeting with Carney
Alberta Premier Danielle Smith says her latest meeting with Prime Minister Mark Carney has inspired optimism and he is demonstrating a "real shift" from the previous Justin Trudeau-led Liberals.
Speaking in Edmonton on Thursday, she said she understands why Albertans might feel the rug has been pulled out from them several times before, but she's committed to diplomacy.
"I found more common ground with the prime minister when I met with him yesterday than I have in any meeting with a prime minister," she said.
Wheatland County makes changes to electoral division boundaries
Some changes have come to the electoral boundaries in the upcoming Wheatland County Municipal Election.
Council approved the changes on Sept. 17, 2024, with the new boundaries coming into effect on Oct. 19 or the day before the 2025 municipal election, whichever is earlier.
Drumheller RCMP target reckless driving
Drumheller RCMP partnered with Drumheller Municipal Enforcement, Kneehill County, and Alberta Sheriffs to monitor reckless driving in and around the community.

Players acquitted in Hockey Canada sex assault trial can return to NHL
The five players acquitted in the Hockey Canada sexual assault trial can return to the NHL when their suspensions end "no sooner" than Dec. 1, the NHL announced Thursday.
The players, who are all unrestricted free agents, can sign with a team on Oct. 15 as they wait for full reinstatement.
Michael McLeod, Dillon Dube, Cal Foote, Alex Formenton and Carter Hart were all charged with one count of sexual assault stemming from an encounter with a woman after a 2018 gala celebrating the world junior team's gold medal. All five pleaded not guilty when the trial opened in April.
Melissa Langmaid announces re-election bid to Strathmore town council
With just over a month to municipal election day, Councillor Melissa Langmaid has announced her re-election bid.
Langmaid was elected to the council in 2021, getting the second-highest number of votes.
"I am running for re-election because I love this community, and I love working to make it a better place. Serving on council has been an immense privilege, and it's a challenge that I've been excited to take on for the past four years," explained Langmaid.
Since being elected, Langmaid has focused on governing as a team with other council members.
