Motorists can expect delays on the QEII beginning today and tomorrow. Beginning Tuesday at 9:30 a.m. and lasting till 2:30 p.m., there will be both spray patching and pothole repair, northbound on the QEII.

While the closure of 24th Street has already begun and will last till the fall due to the construction of a two-lane undivided roadway north of Reunion, motorists should be aware of several other key road and lane closures this month. 

Today, from 10 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., there will also be a temporary lane closure on 8 Street Southwest to accommodate shallow utility maintenance. Then starting next week on Monday, and lasting a week, there will be a temporary road closure of Midtown Boulevard for site servicing.

An earlier reported incident involving a car in the ditch heading northbound on the QEII just before the exit to Crossfield has been cleared.

The car appeared to be in the center ditch dividing the southbound and northbound lanes. There were tow trucks on the scene and there was a possibility of delays in the area.

There is no word on whether anyone sustained any injuries.

One of the city's capital projects is beginning this weekend on Saturday, June 1, which will mean that 24th Street will be closed to through traffic until this fall.

According to The City of Airdrie, 'construction of the 24th Street two lane un-divided roadway north of Reunion will begin in 2024. This project will support future development in the northwest area of the city, north of Reunion.'

The road closure will be in effect until October 1 and is necessary to facilitate the new paved roadway construction.

A previous malfunctioning light at the intersection of Yankee Valley Boulevard, Yankee Valley Crossing, and Market Street has now been fixed.

Earlier on Monday, motorists reported that because the lights were malfunctioning, the area had become a four-way stop. Motorists were asked to exercise caution at the intersection.

For those planning to travel to neighbouring British Columbia this Victoria Day Long weekend, Environment and Climate Change Canada issued a special weather statement Thursday morning due to a potential for snow.

The advisory is in effect for the Coquihalla Highway, Okanagan Connector, Allison Pass, Kootenay Pass, Begbie Summit, and Rogers Pass.

It is predicted that snow could fall overnight on Thursday to Friday morning and possibly early Saturday morning, with accumulation from two to five centimetres.

Banff National Park officials have announced that a portion of the Lake Louise Drive Rehabilitation and Modernization project will start after the Victoria Day Long weekend.

According to the Parks Canada website, construction on Lake Louise Drive will begin on Tuesday, May 21, 2024.

"Summer 2024 visitors are reminded to plan ahead, prepare for delays, and book a shuttle if they are planning to see Lake Louise or Moraine Lake."

Beginning today, the province will take part in a North American-wide commercial vehicle inspection safety blitz.

"Alberta Sheriffs will ramp up commercial vehicle inspections as part of International Roadcheck, a three-day commercial vehicle safety campaign. From May 14 to 16, members of the Alberta Sheriff Highway Patrol will inspect hundreds of additional commercial vehicles and their drivers for compliance with federal and provincial regulations at vehicle inspection stations throughout the province," the province stated.

While a previous temporary lane closure on Main Street South finished over the weekend, which was meant to accommodate construction activities for the Library and Multi-use Facility, another road closure is slated beginning Tuesday.

Starting May 14 until Wednesday, May 22, Main Street South will experience another temporary lane closure to accommodate construction activities as part of the Stormwater System Rehabilitation project.

Calgary police confirmed that a 15-year-old male passenger died on the scene as a result of a collision that shut down a portion of Stoney Trail for several hours on Saturday afternoon.

According to police, excessive speed is being investigated as a factor in this collision.
