The rapid and relentless spread of kochia, the highly adaptable and increasingly resistant weed, is moving north and taking root in places scientists thought it never would.

Man charged after altercation with police in Richmound
A 61-year-old man is facing a list of charges, including assaulting a peace officer, following an incident in Richmound last Friday.
This Friday, the Saskatchewan RCMP announced that Ricky Manz of Richmound has been charged with one count of assault, two counts of assaulting a police officer, one count of resisting arrest, one count of mischief, one count of uttering threats, and one count of obstructing or interfering with an employee or agency of a municipality.
Radville ER experiences 40 service disruptions so far this year
The emergency room at the Radville Marian Health Centre has had 40 service disruptions since the start of 2025. Of these closures, 11 have been attributed to a nurse shortage, 14 to a doctor shortage, and 15 had no specified reason. The most recent closure was overnight Thursday, the fourth disruption of the week.
Get Out Gallery brings local pottery to River Park
Imagine walking along a pathway in a tree-lined park, and you see, in a space along the shores of a river, a plinth with a work of art. This is the experience you can have in River Park, as it is the home for the “Get Out Gallery”, an initiative by the Weyburn Arts Council, now in its second year. The exhibition, in place now, features the work of local potter Lorena Squires.
Bingo nights, raffles part of ongoing fundraiser for upgrades at Nickle Lake Regional Park
Turnout numbers keep growing for the Thursday night Bingo at Nickle Lake Regional Park - with 93 in attendance last night.
"It was great to see that great turnout, so and we're shooting for 100 this coming week," shared Park Manager Darren Wheeler.
He said the Bingo nights, along with the 50/50 raffles drawn every other Sunday are all part of the ongoing fundraising for the new water feature they plan to begin building at the park next season and to help with park upgrades.
Episode two of The Weymazing Race filmed at Nickle Lake Regional Park
Access Communications crews, board members and volunteers with the Weyburn Communithon Foundation Inc, along with their Youth Ambassadors, filmed episode two of 'The Weymazing Race' last night at Nickle Lake Regional Park.
The 'Happy Camper' episode will air in early August on Access 7. It features teams from The Weyburn Credit Union, the City of Weyburn, and Souris Family Dental competing in challenges and trying to garner more contributions for Communithon.
'It makes us stronger as a team': Deputy Fire Chief comments on WFD members helping with wildfire effort
As this wildfire season is a massive provincial and national effort, members of the Weyburn Fire Department returned last week from helping with the firefighting up north.
Paid On-Call Firefighter Rob Jack was helping out in Beauval, SK for the entire 10-12 day commitment in early July, with Marc Schweitzer and Mike Hudson helping out for the first stretch of days, after which Brydon Hnatiuk and Marlow Killian joined Jack for the remainder of the committed time.
Deputy Fire Chief Mike Wolk said they have already received another call for service.
Training facility the goal of fundraising efforts: Weyburn Firefighters Association
The Weyburn Firefighters Association hopes to make the Fire Ball an event to remember for attendees, and a successful fundraiser for their new training facility.
Tickets are on sale now for the new event designed to replace Ladies Night, as it is open to anyone over 19, will be held at the Weyburn Agricultural Society's Exhibition Hall - originally scheduled for September 13th, but postponed due to conflicting events. The new date has yet to be announced.
