Like hundreds of viewers in the Humboldt area and thousands across the country, members of the current Humboldt Broncos were gathered around the TV awaiting the fate of one of their own. Tuesday night was the season finale of the Amazing Race Canada with 2018 Bronco Ty Smith and his partner Kat Kastner in the final three pairs competing for the title.
STF mounts ad campaign alerting public to education issues
Ongoing concerns around the state of K-12 education in the province has led the Saskatchewan Teachers’ Federation to mount an ad campaign alerting parents and stakeholders to what it says is the provincial government “ignoring their responsibilities for public education.”
Stepping up for nature: colla’beer’ation for conservation
The Nature Conservancy of Canada (NCC) is pleased to announce a colla”beer”ation with Nokomis Craft Ales, a brewery located in the rural community of Nokomis, Saskatchewan, who are pouring out $0.50 per can to support NCC initiatives. Parks Week and Parks Day have excitement in store for visitors
Saskatchewan Parks are the place to be anytime, but on Parks Day, Saturday, July 15, there is added excitement. There are planned activities at most Saskatchewan Provincial Parks, including nearby Carlton Trail Historic Park and Green Water Lake Provincial Park. It’s part of Parks Week from July 9 – 15.

ICYM - Preliminary runoff report shows normal for Humboldt area
The Saskatchewan Water Security Agency has released its preliminary spring runoff report. The report provides a snapshot for runoff potential including any early concerns around flooding and ice jams. The projections are based on figures provided as of February 1. It takes into account current regional snowpack and conditions at freeze up the previous year.
Victims' names released in weekend stabbing
The Saskatchewan Coroners Service and the RCMP have released the names of the deceased victims from this weekend's tragic rampage across the James Smith Cree Nation and in the Village of Weldon.
Families have released photographs of the deceased to the Coroners Service.

Witchekan Lake dangerous persons alert cancelled
Spiritwood RCMP have cancelled the Dangerous Persons Alert in relation to gunshots fired on the First Nation.
Kelly Witchekan, one of the two wanted in connection, was arrested in Saskatoon late yesterday evening. 33-year-old Melvin Starblanket has not been located. He has black hair and brown eyes, and is 5’9” and 160 lbs. A photo of him is attached.
Police continue to look for Melvin Starblanket. The public should remain vigilant.
Traffic Safety Spotlights on impaired and distracted driving
SGI’s July Traffic Safety Spotlight provided evidence that not everyone has tuned into the messages impaired driving. Simply put, SGI says too many people continue to choose to drive while impaired.
Time to share the road with farm equipment
s harvest approaches, Saskatchewan roadways will become more occupied with large farm machinery heading from field to field. Each year, there are a small number of collisions between motor vehicles and farm equipment. This type of collision is significantly more likely to result in an injury.
Keeping in mind SGI’s “Just Drive” campaign, the crown insurer says it’s even more important to drive without distractions and be prepared for whatever you might encounter.
