The Sherwood Park Easter egg hunt is returning for its fourth year this weekend. 

The free event will take place on Saturday (Apr. 8) with families driving around the city searching for the eggs, while a toonie carnival takes place at 37 Athabascan Avenue. 

Egg hunting will be an all-day event that will run from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. while the toonie carnival will be open from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. 

Corey McEwen, the director of the event, says everyone is sure to have a good time. 

A retired veteran and postal superintendent amazed the community through his intricate art.

Local artist Len Arnott hosted his first-ever art gallery at the Shell Theatre between February and March.

Len's son, Kevin, said that his father began pursuing art after he retired.

"He didn't take any classes or anything, he just had a passion to paint what he sees," said Kevin. "He likes to paint landscapes and portraits."

BASF Canada Agricultural Solutions has launched its "Growing Home with BASF campaign".

Through the campaign BASF will invest $75,000 to help grow Prairie communities.

During the month of April individuals in Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba can nominate organizations that help grow their communities to win one of the $25,000 prizes.

The Dairy Farmers of Canada are pleased with Ottawa's funding announcement of $333 million over ten years for the dairy sector.

The money is earmarked for research into new products and processing for solids non-fat (SNF).
 
DFC vice-president David Wiens says in order to have enough milk to supply the butter fat market there will be a surplus of SNF.

A train in Strathcona County partially derailed on Wednesday (Apr. 5) morning. 

In a Facebook post, Strathcona County said that emergency services were on the scene of a CN train derailment at Township Road 524 and Range Road 213.

In total, 17 cars derailed from the tracks, all of them carrying grain. The county says no dangerous goods were involved and no one was hurt.

CN has not spoken about the cause of the derailment. 

The area has been cleared and the track has re-opened. 

David Frizzell was driving home work last week when he realized he had just driven past something extraordinary. A beautiful albino moose was grazing at the side of the road  on Highway 21. 

“I had actually drove by the animal and had to turn around and go back. I was kind of surprised. I think there was four or five cars that drove by while I was standing on the shoulder of the road and just continued on,” he said. 

Rachel Notley was in Sherwood Park on Tuesday (April 4) to make a major transportation announcement. 

The Alberta NDP leader was joined by Taneen Rudyk, the NDP candidate for Fort Saskatchewan-Vegreville, and Bill Tonita, the NDP candidate for Strathcona-Sherwood Park, to unveil a campaign promise to create an interchange at Highway 15 and Highway 830 near Scotford. 

Local naturalists are raising concerns about the damage being done to the trails in Ross Creek and Turner Park.

Susan Gronau with the Fort Saskatchewan Naturalist Society says that unauthorized trails have been meddling with the fragile ecosystem that exists in the area.

"The creek is littered and plugged with chain sawed live trees and dead logs from the ground, small trees were cut down, bundled, and tossed to the side," said Gronau. "Pallets have also been tossed in the creek,"

Jude White is the winner of April's Half Grand Helping Hand, courtesy of South Fort Chevrolet and MIX 107.

Jude is a Grade 5 student at Southpointe School with an autism spectrum disorder. His trivia knowledge of Disney and cinema has his classmates and teachers amazed.

His mother, Tanya, said that he can recite the actors, dates, and even production companies with every Disney film.

A Romanian family who had hoped to build a life near Toronto with their two Canadian-born children saw their dreams end tragically in the frigid waters off Akwesasne, Que., after fleeing a deportation order.

Florin Iordache, his wife Cristina (Monalisa) Zenaida Iordache, their two-year-old daughter Evelin and one-year-old son Elyen were among eight people found dead in a river near the Akwesasne Mohawk Territory last week.
