Red Wings keep Mustangs in the stable to take Game 1

Jerome Maharaj had a goal and an assist, and Ethan Dekay scored the game winner, as the Richardson Pioneer Weyburn Red Wings took the first game of the Canterra Seeds Cup with a 2-1 victory over the Melfort Mustangs Saturday night.

"I think Angelo (Zol) made sure that we had a chance to continue to get better," Red Wings head coach Cody Mapes said after the game. "He did his job in the first period, and just kind of allowed us to settle in a little bit. There were definitely some nerves, and a little bit of good goaltending was the recipe we needed there to start."

Red Wings gear up for Game 1 of the SJHL Finals

The Richardson Pioneer Weyburn Red Wings for the first time in over a decade are getting ready for Game 1 of the Canterra Seeds Cup Final tonight against the Melfort Mustangs. The Red Wings defeated the Flin Flon Bombers 3-2 in overtime last Monday to advance to the SJHL finals for the first time since 2012. Now, they have the chance to start he journey to SJHL supremacy and win the league championships, something that hasn't been done for the Red Wings since 2002.

Local golf courses starting to open

Golfers are finally teeing up this spring throughout southwest Saskatchewan.

The Chinook Golf Course opened up for 9-hole play on Friday and are planA ning their first 18-hole men's night on Thursday, April 24th.

Today is opening day for the Sask Landin Golf Resort as they tee-off on their season.

Meanwhile, Elmwood Golf Club has their driving range open this weekend.

They posted on social media that opening day is still to be determined.

Local high school badminton players competed in the Senior SWAC Districts at SCCHS last weekend, while the grade nines headed to Cabri for the Junior North Sectionals.

At the Comp, Michael Liu secured second in boys singles while Hannah Riego took second in girls doubles, while Saryn Allan and Tate Unger finished with silver in mixed doubles.

Special Olympics swimmers join Team Sask

Four local Special Olympics swimmers are joining Team Sask for the Canada Games in August.

Rahimay Priebe, Avery Underhill, Tate Zimmerman and Chayces Forster will join Coach Jackie Powell on the team.

The four swimmers are competing in five races.

They are the 50 freestyle, 50 backcrawl, 50 breaststroke, 100 freestyle, and 100 backcrawl.

This will be the second Canada Games for Tate and Rahimay, who were with Team Sask in 2022 as well.
