Skinner's Oilers lose Stanley Cup to Florida again

Heartbreak for former Swift Current Bronco Stuart Skinner and the Edmonton Oilers last night.

They fell 5-1 to Florida in Game 6 as the Panthers claimed their second consecutive Stanley Cup.

"I think it was just consistency," Skinner said. "They played a consistent game they didn't change once in the series. I think our game was a little bit up and down."

He feels the Oilers have things to learn from another loss in the final.

57's play fourth straight game against Moose Jaw

One more crack at Moose Jaw for the Swift Current 57's in WCBL action tonight.

It's the fourth straight game between the two teams.

Moose Jaw has won two of the three games so far.

The Miller Express beat Swift Current 16-6 on Friday and 27-2 on Sunday, while the 57's got a 12-8 win on Saturday.

The finale of the series goes at 7:05 PM from Mitchell Field tonight.

Southwest stock car racers set for wild weekend

Another weekend of dirt racing is right over the horizon, and the Swift Current Stock Car Association is gearing up.

The Swift Current Motor Speedway will host the races Friday and Saturday, featuring the complete lineup; the modifieds, minis, streets, and hobby stocks. 

Terry Fehr, vice president of the Swift Current Stock Car Association, shared that folks are more than welcome to stop by the pit up to roughly an hour before the races begin to check out the cars and chat with some of the local drivers.

Two Red Deer Lacrosse Athletes Selected for Team Alberta U17 Field Lacrosse Roster

The Red Deer Lacrosse Association (RDLA) is proud to recognize two of its athletes, Gavin Roth and Dylan Turner, on their selection to the Team Alberta U17 Male Field Lacrosse Team.

Roth and Turner, both members of the U17A Red Deer Chiefs and coached by Darren Kinnear, have earned the opportunity to represent Alberta on the national stage.

Gavin Roth has been named to the official team roster and will compete in the Alumni Cup, held this summer in Halifax, Nova Scotia, where he will play a key role on the team’s defensive unit.

Broncos announce signing of 20-year-old G Charlie Tritt

 

The Humboldt Broncos added a potential veteran presence to their crease. 

They announced the signing of 2005-born goaltender Charlie Tritt for the upcoming season.

A 20-year-old Vancouver product, Tritt will enter his final season of junior eligibility. He spent the most of the last three seasons with the Langley Rivermen of the BCHL.

Tritt, listed at 6’1, posted a 7-6-2 record with the Rivermen last season, with a 3.99 GAA, and .889 SV%.
