Broncos split a pair in a cross-province weekend
The Humboldt Broncos brought a split decision from the road back home after a pair of weekend games.
Boris Kofman secured a shootout victory for the Broncos on Saturday against the Millionaires in Melville. The Broncos were plagued by penalties leaving them in a couple 5 on 3 situations, but they powered through a penalty ridden affair that saw goaltender Brady Holtvogt shine turning away 31 of 33.
Outlook town council meeting recap: Roof repairs and tax updates
Outlook, SK – The Outlook Town Council gathered for its regular meeting on Wednesday, October 23, with all councillors present, including Mayor Maureen Weiterman, Councillors Ryan Husband, Justin Turton, Sharon Bruce, Kyle McLeod, Bob Stephenson, and Kevin Grotheim. Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) Kevin Trew and Assistant CAO Rachel Sillers were also in attendance. The meeting was streamed live on the Town of Outlook’s official Facebook page.

Ten wins in a row for the Portage Terriers
The Portage Terriers picked up their 10th win in a row on Monday night beating the Winnipeg Freeze 6-2.
The Freeze started off strong with Ben Whitford opening the scoring midway through the first period. Portage appeared to gain their footing after allowing the first goal. Scott Cousins tied the game with his second of the season and then Caleb Lepitre scored his first of the year on a delayed penalty. The Terriers outshot the Freeze 20-10 in the first period.
Ardens hoist South Regionals title
The Swift Current Comp. Ardens blasted through their competition at the 5A Girl's South Regionals on Saturday in Yorkton.
In round-robin action, straight-set wins over Weyburn and Yorkton moved the Ardens into the semifinals against Estevan.
After dispatching Estevan, the Ardens beat Balgonie 25-15 and 25-16 in the finals to claim the trophy.
Swift Current will face Prince Albert Carlton in their first game at provincials this Friday in Weyburn.
Colts win Regionals in Moose Jaw
The Swift Current Comp. Colts volleyball team are rolling into provincials with some momentum after winning the 5A Boy's South Regionals this past weekend in Moose Jaw.
Swift Current made quick work of Weyburn and Balgonie in their two round-robin games with straight-set victories.
The Colts easily knocked off Yorkton in the semifinals setting up a rematch in the finals with Balgonie.
After dropping the first set of the tournament 22-25, Swift Current bounced back winning the next two 25-20 and 15-13 to win gold.
Little Rockers continuing tradition of teaching kids curling
Winter sports have gotten underway and another option for young children is being offered by the Portage Curling Club. Rae Trimble-Olson, the Office Manager for the club, describes what the club is putting on.
"Little Rockers is a learn-to-curl option for kids in kindergarten to Grade 5. After Grade 5, generally they can play at the middle years intramural level with the schools, so we offer learn to curl for those earlier years."
Trimble-Olson adds that encouraging kids to try the sport has seen several young curlers continue on to higher levels.
The Herd come away with three points over the weekend
The Carstar Okotoks Bisons took control over the number one spot in the HJHL Southern Division this weekend with a 4-1 win over the Medicine Hat Cubs on Friday (Nov. 8) and then came up just short in a 2-1 shootout loss to the Agra Risk Wheatland Kings.
The Herd's three-game winning streak was snapped in the shootout loss, but they have earned at least a point in their last four games.
Sports Update - Monday, November 11th
Elisha Bambridge had a goal and two assists and Jason Bowles chipped in with four assists as the Virden Oil Kings defeated the Hartney Blues 7-5 in the lone Tiger Hills Hockey League game on Sunday. Mark Agnew and Taylor Wells had two goals each for the Blues.
Sports Update - Monday, November 11th
The Springfield Xtreme have won 10 straight games to start the 2024-25 Hanover Tache Junior Hockey League season. Dylan Kizlik made 21 saves as the Xtreme defeated the Niverville Clippers 3-1. The Mitchell Mustangs were 10-2 winners over the East St. Paul Gators.
The Beausejour Comets lost 5-1 to the Selkirk Fishermen. Aaron Bertshinger had the lone goal for the Comets who have 24 points and are tied for first place in the Capital Region Junior Hockey League with the Lundar Falcons and St. Malo Warriors.
