Bombers extend series with win over Red Wings

The best-of-seven SJHL semi-final series between the Richardson Pioneer Weyburn Red Wings and Flin Flon Bombers will be going back to Flin Flon for Game 5. The Bombers opened the scoring in the first period and would continue to add to the lead throughout the game for a 5-1 victory, silencing the 1420 in attendance at Crescent Point Place.  

Carman Minor Soccer prepares for a fun-filled season

The Carman Minor Soccer Association is excited for the weather to be a little nicer and for the start of the outdoor soccer season to get underway this season.

President Chelsea Kozak says there is a lot to look forward to this year. "It's really exciting, the weather seems to be in our favour here, so we're thinking about starting outdoor practice already next week, which is really exciting. We're looking forward to getting back out there, getting on the fields and seeing the kids getting to play the game that they love."

Portage Stampeders athletes shine at indoor track and field event, qualifying for Provincial Games

The Portage Stampeders Special Olympics team had an amazing performance at the indoor track and field event held last weekend in Winnipeg, with all six athletes competing earning ribbons and qualifying for the upcoming provincial Summer Games in June.

"It was a great weekend," said Deanna Talbot, the head coach of the team.

"We had six athletes compete in a variety of events, including shot put, the 60-meter run, the 200-meter run, and the long jump. Every athlete walked away with a ribbon, so it was a fantastic experience."

Okotoks Oilers’ season comes to an end as Vees complete the sweep

Despite a valiant effort against the league-leading Penticton Vees, the Okotoks Oilers have been eliminated from the 2024-2025 BCHL playoffs.

The Oilers played host to Game 4 of the best-of-seven opening round, ultimately falling 4-2 to the visiting Vees.

Penticton took the lead just over seven minutes in, with Max Heise netting the only goal of the first period.

Oiler Brock Souch would even the score at 5:17 of the second, but Penticton reclaimed their lead two-and-a-half minutes later and widened the gap with another goal near the end of the period.

Swift Current Judo Club finished 3rd at provincials

A strong performance for the Swift Current Judo Club at provincials.

They finished 3rd out of 13 clubs at the event, which was won by the Moose Jaw Koseikan Club.

Swift Current athletes Karlee Rempel, Levi Elder, and Talon Moen all had two gold medals at provincials.

Nora Thiessen, Rachel Elder, and Jack Boecheck also won single gold medals.

Kadence Rempel brought home three silver medals, while Lieke Conradie, Blake Rempel, and Eliot Perrault had two. 

Rachel Elder, Jack Bochek, and Chase Twaites won single silver medals.

GP Storm move on to the Alberta Junior Hockey League Finals

More than 2000 fans were at the Bonnetts Energy Centre last night to watch the Grande Prairie Storm beat Whitecourt 6-5 in game 4.

The Storm won the 2nd round of the AJHL playoff series 4 – 0. With the win, they are AJHL North Division Champs.  

The GP Storm will be heading to the AJHL finals versus the South Division Champs, Drumheller OR Calgary. Calgary is leading Drumheller 3 games to none in the best of seven AJHL South Division series. Game four is tonight in Drumheller.
