Winnipeg Jets prospect Chaz Lucius retires at 21 due to medical condition

Winnipeg Jets prospect and first-round draft choice of the Winnipeg Jets in 2021 is retiring at just 21 years old. 

Chaz Lucius announced on Tuesday, saying he was diagnosed with Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome, a hereditary disorder that affects the connective tissue that stabilizes and supports the joints and organs throughout the body.

The Estevan Mermaids Artistic Swimming Club held its annual water show on Sunday evening, drawing one of the largest crowds in the event's history. Head coach Amber Mantei expressed excitement over the positive turnout, with many parents and community members showing their support for the young athletes.

"Everyone really enjoyed themselves, and I got so many compliments," Mantei said. "The athletes were thrilled to have such a large crowd watching them perform their routines, and it was well deserved because they worked hard all season long."

Mayo commits to Merrimack in NCAA

Graduating Swift Current Broncos defenceman Hunter Mayo is off to Merrimack College in the NCAA.

Mayo's commitment means all three overage Broncos players earned NCAA opportunities for next season in the first season WHL players are eligible to play down south.

"They've earned (the opportunities), they deserve them," said Broncos General Manager Chad Leslie. "I'm really happy for our guys that are graduating."

Mayo had 27 points in 27 games for swift Current after coming over from Red Deer at the trade deadline.

Boissevain Soccer Association gears up for exciting new season

It's going to be another big year for soccer Boissevain and President of the Boissevain Soccer Association, Jennifer Beard, couldn't be more excited.

As the first year President, Beard says she's really looking forward to what this year will bring. "I'm so excited, soccer in Boissevain has been growing for years. It's so exciting to see the kids out there having fun, I'm really looking forward to it."

Pembina Valley Women's Soccer adjusts format for upcoming season, more teams welcome

As Pembina Valley Women's Soccer gets set to embark on their second season, one of the founders, Rhonda Vandenbos, is very excited for where things are headed.

Coming off the inaugural season, there's a different feeling according to Vandenbos. "Last year was a lot more nerve-racking," she says with a slight chuckle. "We were not sure exactly what we were doing. We had a concept, we had an idea, and we ran with it. This year, we're a little calmer, we know what to expect and what to look forward to."

Oilers face elimination after third straight playoff loss to Penticton

Despite finding a way to break through the Penticton Vees' defence, the Okotoks Oilers suffered a third loss in the opening round of the BCHL playoffs on Tuesday, April 8.

The Oilers had the home-ice advantage in Game 3 following two prior shutout defeats in Penticton.

The Vees had a 2-0 lead just over five minutes into the first period, with two power-play goals in the second increasing their lead to 4-0.

Red Wings make it three in a row over Bombers

The Richardson Pioneer Weyburn Red Wings pushed the Flin Flon Bombers to the brink of elimination Tuesday night. Ethan Dekay scored a hat trick as the Red Wings skated to a 4-1 win on home ice at Crescent Point Place to go up 3-0 in their best-of-seven semifinal series. 

"Couldn't have done it without my teammates, and my linemates," Dekay said after the game. 

"It was a little sloppy," Red Wings head coach Cody Mapes said of his team's performance. "But at the end of the day, we did some things that we believe are going to give us success here throughout the series."
