Canada overcomes obstacles to pick up win over Italy
Although they got some bad breaks, Canada still came away with a 4-2 win over Italy to improve to 5-1 at the BKT World Men’s Curling Championship at Temple Gardens Centre.
Second Brett Gallant and third Marc Kennedy had a couple of shots not go their way as they curled 86 per cent and 84 per cent, respectively. However, it helps when skip Brad Jacobs curls 99 per cent.
Scotland holds off Italy to stay at one loss
Scotland is keeping pace with the front of the pack at the BKT World Men’s Curling Championship at the Temple Gardens Centre.
The Scots picked up a 9-7 win over Italy in the afternoon draw to move to 5-1.
Scotland was actually trailing Italy 6-5 after eight ends. However, the scored a four-ended in the ninth and held Italy to one in the 10th.
Elsewhere on the ice, Norway’s comeback fell short as they lost 8-6 to China. The Chinese also move to 5-1.
Gold rush: ECS badminton team excels at Weyburn invitational
The Estevan Comprehensive School (ECS) senior badminton team delivered an impressive performance at a recent invitational tournament in Weyburn, bringing home three gold medals.
Dongjun Won made history in boys’ singles, becoming the first player to win the title three years in a row. Jane Contillo claimed gold in girls’ singles, while the boys’ doubles team of Xave Sequito and Moksh Rabari rounded out the team’s medal haul with a first-place finish of their own.
Lind starts pro career in AHL
Shaunavon's Kalan Lind is taking the next step in his hockey journey.
The Nashville Predators assigned Lind to their American Hockey League affiliate in Milwaukee.
He just concluded his Western Hockey League career with the Red Deer Rebels.
Lind had 27 points in 37 games while serving as an alternate captain for the Rebels.
The 2nd round pick of the Predators in 2023 finished his WHL career with 160 points as injuries limited him to 160 games over parts of five seasons.
Wood River claims SSHL U15 Championship
The Southwest Sask Hockey League has crowned its final champion of the 2024-2025 season.
Wood River beat Cabri 5-3 in Game 2 to sweep the U15 Division championship.
Wood River went 20-4 in the regular season before cruising to a championship in the playoff round.
Cabri managed to limit the sting of the loss when they went on to win Hockey Saskatchewan U15 C Provincials.

Humboldt Broncos run out of gas as season comes to a close against Flin Flon
The Humboldt Broncos left it all on the ice in their final matchup against the Flin Flon Bombers. But in the end, it was not enough as the Bombers blanked the Broncos 5-0 on Monday night, winning the best of seven series 4-2.
Humboldt’s season came to an end without a goal in their final two games.
It was a close contest in the opening 20 minutes, with the Bombers holding a slight 17-12 advantage on the shot clock with opportunities on both sides to open the scoring.
