Roughriders hosting Redblacks as CFL season kicks off in Regina
The long wait is over, football fans.
The 2025 Canadian Football League campaign officially begins Thursday night on the prairies, with the Saskatchewan Roughriders welcoming the Ottawa Redblacks to Mosaic Stadium in Regina for the CFL regular season opener at 7:00 PM.
From underdogs to champions PCI JV girls strike gold
Portage Collegiate Institute (PCI) made an unforgettable first impression at a provincial beach volleyball tournament in Winnipeg, bringing home a gold medal in their debut appearance.
PCI entered several junior varsity (JV) and varsity teams into the beach volleyball championships, but among the highlights was a junior varsity girls’ team that took home gold, beating out several schools of seasoned squads from across the province.
"I believe there were close to 70 teams overall," said head coach Braden Schrader.
Cochrane track athletes a forced to be reckoned with at provincials
Cochrane area athletes will be flooding Calgary's Foothills Athletics Park for the next two days to compete for provincial titles in a variety of disciplines at the ASAA high school provincial track and field championship.
Over 20 athletes from Cochrane, Bow Valley and St. Timothy's high schools are advancing after strong performances at both divisional and zone championships.

Moose Jaw holds off Beavers at Tom Laing Park
A strong late-inning push wasn’t enough for the Weyburn Beavers Wednesday night, as they fell 6-4 to the Moose Jaw Miller Express at Tom Laing Park.
Head coach Cam Williams pointed to a few tough breaks that made the difference.

Make it two straight wins for the Moose Jaw Miller Express. The local Western Canadian Baseball League club went to Weyburn and beat the Beavers 6-4 last night. William Edwards went 3 for 4 with an RBI and Austin Gurney hit a two-run double. The 2 and 3 Millers are at home tonight, welcoming the Medicine Hat Mavericks to Ross Wells Park for a 7 o'clock start.
The Mavericks beat Regina Red Sox 9-6 last night, Lethbridge topped Swift Current 3-2 and the Saskatoon Berries whipped Fort McMurray 14-6.

Moose Jaw's Helland sets career saves record at MNU
One Moose Jaw baseball player has forever put his name in the history books at MidAmerica Nazarene University (MNU) in Olathe, Kansas.
Reece Helland has played for the MNU Pioneers for four years. In that time with the team, Helland has achieved a record of 13 wins and 6 losses, maintaining a 4.47 ERA over 84 appearances, including one start and 16 saves.
His final save of the season, recorded on April 26th against Park University, established a new school record for career saves.
6-year-old golfer Liam Penner wins tournament at Maplewood
Liam Penner is just six years old but this past weekend, the golf sensation from Mitchell won a tournament that was held at Maplewood Golf Course.
If you think that six is young, Liam says he started golfing at a much younger age because of someone very special. "(I golf because of) my dad," he says with a big, proud smile. "I was one when I started golf."
Pretty amazing for the young athlete to be getting better as quick as he is, but Liam says he's enjoying the work. "We practice three times a week."
Skinner stops 29 as Oilers get OT win
Former Swift Current Bronco Stuart Skinner made 29 saves to help his Edmonton Oilers start the Stanley Cup Final strong.
Leon Draisaitl struck for his second of the game in overtime, as the Oilers came back from down 3-1 to beat the Florida Panthers 4-3.
Edmonton takes a 1-0 lead in the best-of-seven NHL championship series.
"I think the way that we showed up from the get-go," Skinner said. "The way that we continued to keep on going even though we were down by two, that shows a lot of character by us."
