The Okotoks Dawgs and Medicine Hat Mavericks battled it out last night as the WCBL season gets underway
The Okotoks Dawgs lost a tight one last night, 12-11, in their season opener in Medicine Hat.
The Dawgs and Mavericks battled all night, and it all came down to the final 9th inning.
The Dawgs' bats were hot, slugging out 18 hits on the night, and despite scoring 5 runs in the top of the 9th and leading the Mavericks 11-10, the Mavericks scored two in the bottom of the 9th to clinch the win 12-11.
Last year's WCBL champs will look to regroup for their home opener this Saturday at Seaman's Stadium.

Souris Cardinals ready to take flight in SWBL
The Souris Cardinals are ready for another season in the South West Baseball League and new manager Clark King is excited for what the year can bring.
After a long wait, the Cardinals got their season underway and King says they're ready to go. "We're feeling good, the players have been great getting things organized, so it's been an easy task for me so far. We have lots of young players, a good combination of older and younger players, it's been good."

57's open WCBL season in Regina

They travel to Regina to play the Red Sox tonight.
"Coming in every year there's always that excitement of meeting new guys," said 57's Infielder Brody Alexander. "Getting to make a lot of new lifelong friends. It's just exciting to get going. Can't wait."
Foothills County to host another international water-skiing championship
An international water skiing championship is returning to Foothills County this summer.
The Predator Bay Water Ski Club will host the International Waterski & Wakeboard Federation (IWWF) Under-21 World Waterski Championships from July 28 to Aug. 3.
The club has hosted several major events over the years, including last year’s IWWF Under-17 World Waterski Championships.
Among the competitors is Megan Pelkey of Foothills County, who is set to compete in the women’s trick, jump and overall categories.

Sundogs teams enjoy competition at nationals
An experience they can take with them for a lifetime.
A recent trip to club volleyball nationals was a memorable one for three Swift Current Sundogs teams.
The Swift Current Southwest Sports Excellence 15U Male Sundogs finished 21st out of the top 108 teams in the country.
"I thought it was a great experience for the boys just seeing all the different teams from across the country," said 15UM Head Coach Sean Fraser. "Being able to play different teams, seeing that higher competition level, and being able to step up and play with them."
Winnipeg Jets captain, Adam Lowry out 5-6 months following surgery
Following the Winnipeg Jets elimination from the Stanley Cup playoffs, one player is recovering after having surgery.
The Winnipeg Jets shared on Facebook on Wednesday afternoon that Captain Adam Lowry underwent successful hip surgery yesterday.
"It is anticipated that his rehabilitation will take five to six months," the post said.
To answer any fans' questions, the team said that he is expected to make a full recovery.
