Cyle Clayton is playing his first season with the Okotoks Oilers but he is no stranger to the team.

The Strathmore product spent parts of four seasons on the other side of the rink in the AJHL with the Drumheller Dragons and spent three seasons with the Okotoks Oilers U15 AAA, U16 AAA, and U18 AAA teams during his minor hockey career.

Clayton comes from a family of defenders.

The regular season ended off a high note for the Wynyard Bears high school football team, as they picked up a 62-44 win over the Ituna Trojans.  

After both teams came away empty handed on their opening possessions, the points started piling up on the scoreboard.  

Wynyard’s Dawson Malinowski opened the scoring with a 45-yard touchdown run. 

The Swift Current Comp. Colts will begin their journey for a third straight SHSAA 5A South Rural Football League's Tier 2 Championship tomorrow. 

Swift Current will kickoff playoff action at Colts Field against the Estevan Elecs, with the winner moving onto the championship game next weekend against the Moose Jaw Peacock Tornadoes. 

The Colts picked up their lone victory on the season over the Elecs on September 24 30-14.

Stefan Daniel will rest a little easier in the off-season after winning his sixth para triathlon world championship.

Daniel, 27, wasn't about to miss this opportunity for a little redemption from the bike crash that saw him miss the podium at the Paris Paralympics six weeks ago. On Oct. 18, he won the men's standing classification with a time of 59:26 at worlds in Torremolinos, Spain. 

“Today I just felt a sense of relief when I crossed the finish line," he told Triathlon Canada.  "This will make the off-season so much sweeter,” added Daniel. “It was redemption.”

On the cusp of the 20th anniversary of Cochrane's Ippon Karate Dojo, their athletes have been leaving an impressive mark on the international stage.

Amazingly three sets of their athletes were competing in three different countries on Oct. 14.

"I don't even know if there's another sport in Cochrane that could claim that, let alone a martial arts club," says Adam Wackershauser, Ippon Karate Dojo owner/operator and head coach.  "We've just had such a good showing the last six months."

Team Canada, represented by Shaun Meachem, Kelly Schafer and Chris and Teejay Haichert from the Swift Current Curling Club, saw their quest for gold at the World Mixed Curling Championship come to a heartbreaking end after an upset loss to the Netherlands in the round of 16 this morning in Aberdeen, Scotland.

Moose Jaw, Sask. – The Moose Jaw Warriors are set to honour local military members on Friday night at Hangar with a special, limited-edition jersey being worn when they take on the Medicine Hat Tigers.

This year’s Military Appreciation jersey features the 1967 Royal Canadian Air Force Rondel as the crest on the front.

The 1967 RCAF Rondel was created in 1967 to celebrate the Canadian Centennial and during that year, the Golden Centennaires were formed.

The Westman Wildcats are two weeks into the 2024-25 Manitoba Female U18 AAA Hockey League season. Head coach Troy Gould will join Clayton Dreger on Sportsbeat which airs Fridays at 5:15 p.m. on CJRB Radio 1220.

Soccer star and Winnipeg native Desiree Scott is calling it quits. 

Scott announced via a video on social media on Thursday that she plans to retire from the National Women's Soccer League at the end of this season.

"It is bittersweet to think about this moment, but I know that the timing is right. Your girl is tired," said Scott. "I also know in my heart of hearts, that I am at peace with this decision. I've given so much to the game over the last 20-plus years and it has given me so much back in return."

The Moose Jaw Warriors face off against the Medicine Hat Tigers at the Hangar tonight, before heading to Swift Current tomorrow night to face the Broncos. Puck drop for both games is 7, and you can catch all the action on Country 100 with James Gallo, starting with the pregame shows at 6:40.

The Winmar AAA Warriors are at the Moose Jaw Events Centre tomorrow, where they’ll battle the Tisdale Trojans starting at 7.
