Angels offense runs out of gas at Tier 4 provincials in Hanley

Just a few weeks removed from their run to the finals in the Fertile Valley Baseball League, the Rosetown Angels put on a show at Baseball Sask Tier 4 provincials in Hanley this past weekend, but fell one win short of taking home the title.

The Angels arrived in Hanley for the first game of the tournament on Friday morning at 9:00 AM, and came out of the gates hot with a 20-3 win against the host Hanley White Sox. Their next game wasn't until Saturday at 2:00 PM against the Pasquia Angels, Rosetown earning a 6-5 win against their fellow Halo's, a team they would see again. 

Former Portager Karissa Kirkup honoured with award from Hockey Canada

Westman Wildcats coach Karissa Kirkup, was named the BFL Women in Coaching Award, the national competitive winner, and on top of that, she's looking forward to tryouts and camp, which is right around the corner.

Kirkup grew up playing minor hockey in Portage la Prairie before her family moved to Virden for high school.

From there, she would play U18 with the Wildcats of the Manitoba Female Hockey League before moving on to a successful career with the U of M Bisons.

Along with coaching, she is a Grade 6 teacher and is working on a master’s degree in education.

Phillips thrilled with move to Nighthawks

The Niverville Nighthawks bolstered their blueline, adding veteran defender Thomas Phillips via trade, and the 20-year-old Lorette product couldn't be more thrilled to be closer to home.

"I was super pumped up," Phillips says about being informed about the trade. "Obviously, coming home is something I'm super excited for. Getting to play in front of friends and family, especially in my last year, it's going to be fun. Niverville is a place that I always had my eye on, I always thought it be a fun place to go, so I was excited to hear that."

Broncos to play in seven preseason games

Before the Humboldt Broncos and the rest of the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League (SJHL) drop the puck on the 2025-26 regular season, they will work off the summer rust in the preseason. 

On Monday, the SJHL announced the 2025 Preseason schedule 

The Broncos will play in seven exhibition games in total, with four on the road and three at the Elgar Petersen Arena.  

Berries treat fans to a roller coaster playoff weekend in Saskatoon

Baseball fans in the Bridge City got their money’s worth over the weekend. 

The Saskatoon Berries played in a pair of extra inning thrillers on consecutive nights at the NexGen Patch, splitting a pair of playoff games.  

On Saturday, after being rained out the previous night, the Berries faced off with the Moose Jaw Miller Express in the deciding game of their best of three series.  

Dr. Mainprize Foundation to host 2nd annual $1M Par 3 Golf Tournament

The Dr. Mainprize Park Foundation will host the Million Dollar Par Three Golf Tournament on September 13th at Mainprize Regional Park..

President Brandon Rosengren said last year's event was a huge success. 

"We had about 300 people turn out for that, and we raised, I think, $47,000. So we're hoping to beat that this year, and we want to have around 350 to 400 people attend."

Ponoka athlete makes history at wakesurfing’s World Games debut

Bailey Rush of Ponoka has made wakesurfing history, winning the sport’s first-ever gold medal at the World Games.

Competing in Chengdu, China, on Sunday, (August 10), Rush captured gold in the women’s wakesurfing (skim) event as the sport made its debut on the World Games stage.

The 25-year-old Wake Canada national team athlete dominated prequalification and semifinal rounds before sealing the victory in the finals.

Lambson fans 11 as Goldeyes power past Saltdogs

The Winnipeg Goldeyes (36-46) combined dominant pitching with a power surge at the plate to claim a 7-2 victory over the Lincoln Saltdogs (31-49) Sunday afternoon at Blue Cross Park, securing the three-game series win.
 
Winnipeg struck early in the bottom of the second inning. Matthew Warkentin launched his 12th home run of the season over the right-field wall, and moments later, Keshawn Lynch delivered a two-run blast to left with Tripp Clark aboard to make it 3-0.
 

Okotoks Dawgs in a must-win position tonight in a battle for the WCBL West Championship

The Okotoks Dawgs are looking to claim their fourth WCBL Championship banner, but they need to beat the Sylvan Lake Gulls tonight to have a chance.

The Dawgs lost the opening game 7-3, in the best-of-three series, at Seaman Stadium on Sunday, so now the Dawgs are in a do-or-die situation.

They must win tonight in Sylvan Lake to force a game three back in Okotoks on Wednesday night.

If the Dawgs win, they host the Gulls tomorrow at 7:05 p.m.
