Sask Selects football development camps a success in Weyburn, Estevan

The Sask Selects Football Skills Camp was held in Weyburn on Friday night - with a last-minute change of venue to the Credit Union Spark Centre due to rain soaking the field. Then another camp was held in Estevan on Saturday.

The successful camps, aimed at sharpening skills and boosting coaching know-how in rural communities, were facilitated by former CFL offensive lineman Matt Sheridan.

“In Weyburn, we focused on practice planning and basic injury management. Estevan was more offensive line-heavy, because that’s what coaches asked for.” 

Shanks hat trick forces game three in NLL Finals

The Saskatchewan Rush forced a game three in the 2025 NLL Finals after a thrilling 11-10 win over the Buffalo Bandits on Co-op Field. 

In the first quarter, Jake Boudreau opened the scoring, followed by goals from Austin Shanks and Ryan Keenan as the Rush jumped out to a 3-1 lead. 

Buffalo battled back in the second, but it was Keenan, Boudreau and Zach Manns who found twine as the two heavyweights sat tied 6-6 at recess. 

Clark Walter and rookie Brock Haley scored in the third quarter, but it was the road side up 9-8 heading into the final frame. 

Klippers top scorer Anderson commits to University of Augustana

The Kindersley Jr. Klippers pipeline to the University of Augustana pumped out another future Viking last week, as the team shared last week that BC native and two-year Klipper Zak Anderson will be continuing his hockey career at the post-secondary level next season.  

Klippers head coach and GM Clayton Jardine had these kind words for Anderson, who was a key part of the Klippers offensive attack in 99 career combined regular season and playoff games.

Cochrane Kodiaks strike silver in nationals debut

The first team of the newly formed Cochrane Volleyball Club has set a high benchmark by winning a silver medal in its debut at nationals.

The Cochrane Kodiaks U15 girls’ team played nine matches over three days against teams from Manitoba, Alberta, B.C. and Saskatchewan.

They defeated the North Shore Stars of B.C. in three sets (25-18, 20-25, 15-5) in the quarterfinals, then beat the Vermilion Rustlers of Saskatchewan in straight sets (25-15, 25-16) in the semifinals to advance to the championship match. A team from Victoria won the final.

Strathmore Spartans shine at provincial esports tournament

The Strathmore High School Spartans esports team had some standout performances at the Alberta Esports Championship earlier this month.

The tournament took place at Bow Valley College from May 10 to 11 and featured junior high and high school students from across the province playing Rocket League, Valorant, and Super Smash Bros.

According to Strathmore High, JuanJose Gonzales placed thirteenth, and Jordan MacDonald finished seventeenth out of more than 120 competitors in Super Smash Bros.

We're down to the Final Four in the Stanley Cup Playoffs, and just one Canadian team is in the mix.

The Edmonton Oilers will play the Stars in Dallas in Game One of the Western Conference Championship tomorrow night. The Eastern Conference Final gets going tonight with the Carolina Hurricanes hosting the Florida Panthers.

The SJHL champion Melfort Mustangs came close but settled for silver medals at the Centennial Cup. The host Calgary Canucks beat Melfort 7–2 in the championship final.

Weyburn's Quinn Mantei off to NCAA ranks for next season

After four seasons with the Brandon Wheat Kings, Weyburn’s Quinn Mantei is taking the next step in his hockey career. The defenceman, who captained the Wheat Kings this past season, has committed to play hockey at the collegiate level. He will be going to Providence College, joining the Friars for the upcoming NCAA season.
