"Hidden jewel" Killarney Lakeside Golf Club ready for big season

The 2025 season is underway at Killarney Lakeside Golf Club and golf shop manager Scott Lawson is thrilled to welcome back members and new guests to the beautiful course.

"Things have been really busy out here," an excited Lawson says. "It's been nice to see everyone back. We've had some good weather the past couple of weeks and that had members coming out golfing. This weekend wasn't so good, but we're happy to be back."

Pickleball tournament a smashing success

The popularity of pickleball continues to grow and for Keith Bially is thrilled with the growth of the sport as well as the results of a recent tournament. 

"I think for the last couple of years, there's been an interest in the high school about having some kind of pickleball tournament or jamboree," explains Bially. "We wanted to have other schools involved and there was interest. May 15th was the first tournament put on by MHSAA and Pickleball Manitoba. I believe there was 12 schools and 98 athletes that participated, not bad size for an inaugural event."

Dawgs welcome Mitch "Big Bear" Schmidt back to the dugout

The Okotoks Dawgs have announced the return of a local legend.

Mitch "Big Bear" Schmidt will be back in the dugout for the 2025 season.

Schmidt was a key figure in the Dawgs' coaching staff for several years, most notably in 2021 when he led the team to the first of three consecutive WCBL championship titles.

After spending the past two seasons on medical leave, Schmidt is set to return as co-manager.

Schmidt will make his return on June 6.

Giving Back: House of Cars and Bike Cochrane ride together

If you bought a vehicle at House of Cars in April, you also supported Bike Cochrane.

For the second year, the car dealership earmarked funds from each vehicle sold that month to Cochrane's thriving cycling nonprofit organization.

Robert Martens, Bike Cochrane president Robert Martens says the $1,000 donation will go a long way in supporting their many programs in the community.

15U AAA 57's earn come from behind win on Local Sports Live

A determined effort for the Swift Current 15U AAA Argue Law 57's on Saturday.

"Just really liked how our group came back," said 57's Head Coach Brayden Harrison. "A no quit attitude."

Swift Current came back from down 6-0, 8-5, and 11-8 to beat the Saskatoon Expos on Country 94.1 FM's Local Sports Live powered by OMT Projects.

It was an important response from the 57's after a 12-0 loss to the Expos to open their doubleheader.

Winnipeg Jets say Mark Scheifele's dad has died unexpectedly

Brad Scheifele, the father of Winnipeg Jets’ star Mark Scheifele, has unexpectedly died according to the team. 

Jets GM Kevin Cheveldayoff told reporters in Dallas on Saturday morning that Brad died on Friday night. 

Bombers U18 showcase brings up local talent

Football season is around the corner, and several local athletes are preparing by attending different camps.

These camps include travel across the country, but some camps are closer to home. 

Four Portage Collegiate Institute football players recently had the opportunity to test their skills against some of the province’s top young athletes at the Winnipeg Blue Bombers’ U18 Blue and Gold Showcase.
