Hammerheads swim team shows winning performances at Provincials

The Humboldt Hammerheads wrapped up their summer swim season with a standout performance at Provincials last weekend in Watrous.  

A total of 44 swimmers represented the team at the two-day competition, delivering incredible results across the board. The team brought home an impressive 20 individual gold medals, 10 silver, and 14 bronze. In the relay events, the Hammerheads continued to shine, collecting 16 gold, 10 silver, and 7 bronze medals. 

Rugby Alberta selects seven from Bow Valley for interprovincial play

Rugby Alberta has selected seven players from the Bow Valley Rugby Club to compete on Wolfpack teams for interprovincial play.

Five were named to the U17 women's team, and one to both the U19 and U17 men's teams.

Amelie Brown, Avari Horvath, Livi Poluin, Olivia Harris, and Sydney Blydo will travel to Shawnigan Lake School (B.C.) to train and compete in the Vancouver Island Tour, Aug. 3 to 8.

Besides Bow Valley club play, they were standouts with Cochrane's CobraCats high school rugby team.

The Rebels need your fan vote

The Red Deer Rebels have a rich history of excellent players and now need your help in honouring a select few.

Fans are invited to vote for players of the past 25 years for the quarter-century team.

Since their inaugural season in 1992–93, the Rebels have had 66 players drafted into the NHL, including notable names such as Dion Phaneuf and Ryan Nugent-Hopkins, who was selected first overall by the Oilers in 2011.

Goldeyes fall to Fargo-Moorhead

The Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks (39-32) defeated the Winnipeg Goldeyes (27-42) Tuesday evening at Blue Cross Park by a score of 4-2.
 
After three and a half innings of scoreless baseball, Keshawn Lynch and Matthew Warkentin reached on singles before Roby Enríquez ripped a two-run double off the centre field wall to give Winnipeg a 2-0 lead.

Berries stun Beavers in Saskatoon

The Weyburn Beavers battled on the road Tuesday night but couldn't overcome an early surge by the Saskatoon Berries. The first-place Berries would take the game by a final score of 7-3. 

The Berries opened up the scoring in the bottom of the first inning, tagging Weyburn starting pitcher Connor Nipp for four runs to take a commanding lead they would never relinquish. Saskatoon added another two runs in the fourth to build a 6−0 advantage.

Team Ontario out of Toronto High Park beat Moose Jaw's Little League All Stars 14-2 as the Canadian Little League Championships got underway in Victoria yesterday.
The local boys will be back in action this afternoon against the host Lay ritz All Stars.
In other games, Team BC pounded Quebec 18-0 and Alberta outscored Team Atlantic 13-2.

Maeve Maguire returns to national stage with Team Alberta

Cochrane ball player Maeve Maguire is returning to the diamond to represent Alberta in the Baseball Canada 19U Women’s National Championship.

Team Alberta opens the tournament against Manitoba at noon on July 31 at AGAT Field, a showcase stadium at Webber Academy Athletic Park on Lower Springbank Road.

Maguire, 18, is pencilled in to play second and third base on the 15-player roster.

Showdown In Cowtown to feature duo of beloved events

Indian Relay Races and Invitational Junior Steer Riding are set to be showcased this Thursday in a southwest town during the 2025 Showdown In Cowtown event. 

The High Chaparral Arena at the Maple Creek Ag Grounds will host the annual event, complete with beer gardens and food vendors.

Gates open at 5:00 p.m. and the action gears up around 6:30 p.m.

Tickets at the gate are $40 for adults over the age of 18, $20 for youth ages 13 to 18, and children ages 12 and under get in for free.
