Bow Valley rugby season kicks off this weekend
Excitement is in the air as all Bow Valley rugby teams gear up for the opening of the club season, with both youth and adult squads starting on the road.
That includes the Division 2 Bow Valley Grizzlies, who are in Red Deer to challenge the Titans.
Tyler Hawes, head coach of the Men's Division 2 Grizzlies, says they've been warming up for the season at the Mitford Park pitch after training indoors during the off-season.
"The boys are ready and raring to go. We've got a few new guys, and I think they're excited to get it going."

The Toronto Maple Leafs beat the Ottawa Senators last night 4–2, securing a win in their first-round playoff series. They'll face the Florida Panthers in the second round.
The Vegas Golden Knights also advanced to the second round, having defeated the Minnesota Wild in Game Six, 3–2.
The Edmonton Oilers punched their ticket to the second round, winning 6–4 last night, and four straight in their series against the LA Kings. They'll play the Golden Knights next.
RUSH REACH - Jake Boudreau leads Sask Rush to playoff win
After an exciting victory over the Georgia Swarm, the Saskatchewan Rush are moving on in the NLL playoffs!
One of the biggest contributors to the 13-9 victory was Rush transition player Jake Boudreau. With four goals and an assist, Boudreau said it was a team effort that led to the win.
New season, same goal for U18 AA Brewers
The U18 AA Brewers are getting ready to hit the field for their season opener this weekend, following a successful 2024 campaign that saw them win the Western Canada Championship.
Head coach Jeff Kuchinka said the team is bringing back a solid core of players from last year.
“We’ve got eight returning players, so we’ve got a good chunk of a team returning from last year’s championship team."

He's the latest Swift Current hockey player to make the Saskatchewan Junior Pats roster for the annual Brick Invitational tournament.
"I felt good," Cassidy said. "I'm excited. It's like taking the hockey to the next level."
Local products face adversity in WHL playoffs
A tough night for Swift Current products in the WHL.
Anthony Wilson scored, but his Lethbridge Hurricanes fell 5-3 to the Medicine Hat Tigers and lost the Eastern Conference final 4-0.
That means the season is over for the Swift Current native.
Wilson had 18 points in 56 games between Lethbridge and Regina. He added 4 in 15 playoff games.
Former Bronco Mathew Ward scored twice for the Tigers in the win.
