Zodiacs & Thunder capture Zone 4 soccer titles
The Garden Valley Zodiacs and Morden Thunder are Zone 4 high school soccer champions.
Louis Braun, Noah Vanden Berg and Marcelo Froese did the goal scoring as GVC defeated Miller 3-1 in the boys final Thursday in Winkler. Will Sawatzky had the lone goal for the Aces.
The Thunder shutdown Miller 2-0 in the girls final in Morden. Kaydence Wiens scored both goals for the Thunder while Gabbi Hildebrand recorded the clean sheet.
GVC and Morden will represent Zone 4 at the Provincial A/AA/AAA High School Soccer Championships in Minnedosa on October 11th & 12th.

The Westman Wildcats play their 2024-25 Manitoba Female U18 AAA Hockey League season opener tonight in Morden against the Pembina Valley Hawks. The Wildcats play their home opener Sunday in Souris against the Interlake Lightning.

Nigel Reader kicked a 25-yard field goal on the final play of the game to lift Steinbach Regional past the Kelvin Clippers 25-23 Thursday night in Winnipeg. The Clippers scored the tying touchdown and successfully converted the extra point to take a one point lead with 65 seconds left. SRSS quarterback Toby Plett completed passes to Parker Mantie, Braeden Sinclair and Ryan Martin to put the offense in field goal range. Josiah Griener carried the ball 28 times for 230 yards and two touchdowns.

GVC and Morden will represent Zone 4 at the Provincial A/AA/AAA High School Soccer Championships in Minnedosa on October 11th & 12th. The Shevchenko Sabres and Carman Cougars won the Tier 2 championships. The Sabres beat Dufferin Christian 2-0 in the boys final. The Cougars shutout Morris/St. Jean 6-0 in the girls final.
Viragos gear up for crucial match against Swan Valley after injury setback
After a challenging game last weekend that was called off due to injuries, the Viragos are preparing to face Swan Valley this Saturday as they aim to solidify their position in the Prairie Girls Football League.
“We went into Moosomin with 11 players and thought we’d be alright, but we had some injuries. By halftime, it was 54-12, and we had to call the game because we were down to six players,” said head coach Mark Tribiger.
Broncos rookies excited for next step
There will be a lot of learning for 11 WHL rookies on the Swift Current Broncos roster this season.
Making the team was a special moment for the young Broncos.
"Opening day it's just an honor," said local product Parker Rondeau. "I've dreamed about this since I was a little kid and heard my dad play on this team. It's awesome. My name called on that team... it's just a great feeling."
Parker's father Jeremy Rondeau played 249 games for Swift Current from 1995-1999. Growing up in this community he knows how the InnovationPlex can feel in big moments.
Yager named Warriors’ captain; Leadership group finalized
Moose Jaw, Sask. – Brayden Yager has been named the 36th captain in Moose Jaw Warriors’ history.
“It feels really good,” Yager said. “It’s definitely an honour, there’s a lot of guys in this room that could wear the C, but I’m excited.”
Yager takes the reigns from Denton Mateychuk, who served as the Warriors’ captain for the past two seasons before graduating to the Columbus Blue Jackets.
“I have some pretty big boots to fill and learned a lot from him,” Yager said.
Winnipeg Jets unveil vibrant Ukrainian Heritage logo
The Winnipeg Jets have introduced a new Ukrainian Heritage logo ahead of the new NHL season.
The logo was designed by Andrii Sobchuk, a native of Lutsk, Ukraine, who moved to Canada with his family to continue his graphic design career with True North Sports + Entertainment after the war began in 2022, the club says in a release.
